The SCHULTZ PIANO COURSE is a comprehensive, flexible course of music instruction for the young, beginning piano student. It is easily adapted to each student's individual rate of progress. The complete course includes three areas of study - reading and performance, technique, and theory - to be studied simultaneously in the piano lesson. Each area is covered in three carefully graded levels to encourage logical and steady progress. The Technique books provide a solid foundation in finger strength and finger independence, with emphasis on equal development of each hand. Finger drills are supplemented with studies in other important areas of piano technique. Additional activities requiring repetition and transposition encourage the student's musical awareness and creativity while providing a well-rounded piano technique.

There are five books in this Method which is designed for anyone from school age through adulthood. Now the book and CD can be purchased together or separately. While the music selections in Volume 1 remain the same as the earlier edition, the spacious new engraving with minimal editing generally keeps only one piece per page. Instruction material in many pieces from Volume 1 has been removed in lieu of right-hand studies at the top of the page and left-hand studies at the bottom. Tempo markings are now included on many pieces. So many of the great pianists and teachers have come out of Poland and Russia (Rubinstein, Anton as well as Arthur, Leschetizky, Paderewski, the Lhevinnes, Gilels, Richter, and others), yet we know little about their methods of learning and teaching. George Kochevitsky in The Art of Piano Playing supplies some important sources of information previously unavailable in the United States. From these sources, tempered by this own thinking, Kochevitsky formulated a scientific approach that can solve most problems of piano playing and teaching. George Kochevitsky graduated in 1930 from Leningrad Conservatory and did post-graduate work at Moscow Conservatory. After coming to the U.S., he taught privately in New York City, gave a number of lectures, and wrote for various music periodicals.
