I Recall: Collections and Recollections is a memoir by Robert Henderson Croll. Croll was an Australian author, lyricist, bushwalker, and civic servant. Excerpt: "Central Australia, where I have now been five times, was long a place of desire. When my Sister Elizabeth and her husband, Albert Watts, went to live at Quorn, a township sitting at the foot of the Flinders Range in South Australia, I paid her two visits. They quickened my wish to see more of the remarkable country on the edge of which Quorn is placed. That was some forty years ago. The first, a Spring journey, left two vivid memories. One is of the seemingly endless fields of young wheat which made much of South Australia so beautiful just then; the other is of a shooting trip to which we were invited. Our hosts were two young men of the district, tall and powerful, sons of a German settler. The conveyance was a light open cart with one fixed seat which held the two brothers. Behind them, a board rested its ends on the sides of the cart and was secured to the front seat by a stout rope."

This work, which unlike most of the books on the subject written at the time has retained its popularity, covers in great detail the major coaching roads to Bath, Exeter, Portsmouth, Brighton, Dover, York and Holyhead. The author considered the roads and the coaching inns from the viewpoint of the traveller, and did not confine himself to any particular era. The result is a fascinating series of descriptions of the social life which passes between the province and London.

Havelock Ellis was a British physician, psychologist and writer, social reformer and progressive intellectual who studied the history of human sexuality. Together with Albert Moll and Richard von Krafft-Ebing he was one of the founders of sexology. He co-authored the first English medical textbook on homosexuality in 1897 and also published works on various sexual practices and inclinations, as well as transgender psychology; he is also credited with having first introduced the terms narcissism and autoeroticism, later also adopted by psychoanalysis. The use of events from his inner and outer life and the discussion of his wife's life led him to write his own autobiography. He also claims that the autobiography was written to help others gain insight not only into his life, but into life itself.
