The report focusses on four key functions: what is & isn't known about the current state of the environment at the provincial level; how the environment is changing over time; the importance of the environment & steps being taken to address environmental issues; and the challenges to improving environmental monitoring & measures for the future. The indicators are presented & discussed in the following categories: water quality & quantity, prairie biodiversity, forest biodiversity, invasive exotic species, agricultural activity, non-renewable resource activity, climate change (greenhouse gas emissions), waste management, human population density, and stewardship. Indicators under development are also reviewed.
