In this IBM® Redbooks® publication, we give an overview of different data management topics related to a typical SAP® data center. The intrinsic functionality of SAP is not designed to completely handle all the tasks of a data center by itself, but the SAP system offers several interface possibilities to attach external tools to it to accomplish this task We explain SAP basic concepts and the issues with SAP data management. We introduce Tivoli® Storage Manager and all of its products that are related to SAP data management. We provide some comparison between database backup and recovery tools. Finally, we discuss data archiving using IBM DB2® CommonStore for SAP, and discuss high availability requirements and disaster recovery considerations. The second part of this book discusses a practical implementation of SAP backup and recovery with Tivoli Storage Manager. We implement this setup on two separate SAP systems: one running DB2 and the other running Oracle® database. We also implement LAN-free backup and FlashCopy® scenarios. In the sample implementation section, we show many different tasks, such as backup and restore, database recovery, backup monitoring, and tuning. We also cover some advanced backup/availability considerations, such as split mirror backup and standby databases. This book helps individuals that operate an SAP environment to devise a strategy for a sound and comprehensive data backup solution using the IBM Tivoli Storage Management product family.

R/3 is a business system that has gained global prominence. However, the SAP R/3 has 237,000 function modules. Quite often programmers are unaware that a module exists which can be of help in their programs. This convenient resource is a collection of the most common ABAP modules, demonstrated within simple programs. These programs for easily searchable examples can be accessed from http://extras.springer.com/978-1-85233-775-9 The modules in this book are organised for quick reference. This concise reference contains: A full explanation of the layout of reference entries; a brief introduction to SAP; coverage of conversion and date and time modules; file and directory modules; list, long texts, and number modules; useful integration modules for MSOffice and pop-up dialog box management. This book organises over 300 modules, many of which are undocumented in text, and arranges them for quick and easy reference, and explains when and where to use the most common SAP R/3 ABAP function modules.

With growing memory sizes and memory prices dropping by a factor of 10 every 5 years, data having a "primary home" in memory is now a reality. Main-memory databases eschew many of the traditional architectural pillars of relational database systems that optimized for disk-resident data. The result of these memory-optimized designs are systems that feature several innovative approaches to fundamental issues (e.g., concurrency control, query processing) that achieve orders of magnitude performance improvements over traditional designs. This monograph provides an overview of recent developments in main-memory database systems. It covers five main issues and architectural choices that need to be made when building a high performance main-memory optimized database: data organization and storage, indexing, concurrency control, durability and recovery techniques, and query processing and compilation. The monograph focuses on four commercial and research systems: H-Store/VoltDB, Hekaton, HyPer, and SAPHANA. These systems are diverse in their design choices and form a representative sample of the state of the art in main-memory database systems. It also covers other commercial and academic systems, along with current and future research trends.

Records of modern female boxing date back to the early eighteenth century in London, and in the 1904 Olympics an exhibition bout between women was held. Yet it was not until the 2012 Olympics—more than 100 years later—that women’s boxing was officially added to the Games. Throughout boxing’s history, women have fought in and out of the ring to gain respect in a sport traditionally considered for men alone. The stories of these women are told for the first time in this comprehensive work dedicated to women’s boxing. A History of Women’s Boxing traces the sport back to the 1700s, through the 2012 Olympic Games, and up to the present. Inside-the-ring action is brought to life through photographs, newspaper clippings, and anecdotes, as are the stories of the women who played important roles outside the ring, from spectators and judges to managers and trainers. This book includes extensive profiles of the sport’s pioneers, including Barbara Buttrick whose plucky carnival shows launched her professional boxing career in the 1950s; sixteen-year-old Dallas Malloy who single-handedly overturned the strictures against female amateur boxing in 1993; the famous “boxing daughters” Laila Ali and Jacqui Frazier-Lyde; and teenager Claressa Shields, the first American woman to win a boxing gold medal at the Olympics. Rich in detail and exhaustively researched, this book illuminates the struggles, obstacles, and successes of the women who fought—and continue to fight—for respect in their sport. A History of Women’s Boxing is a must-read for boxing fans, sports historians, and for those interested in the history of women in sports.
