Rubies from My Dusty Closet is like discovering a treasure chest long wanting to be found. It is the realization of a passionate dream. The name has a literal meaning. It has my favorite poem that I wrote in college long time back, getting intensely touched by the sacrifice of a young soldier who died fighting for his country’s freedom. Ever since, any fascinating real-life occurrence steered me to create poetry. During a closed one’s suicide, I resorted to writing to deal with the pain. It healed me. It became an addiction I sought shelter in. Extremes of emotion—failure, death, love, suffering, joy, beauty—and universal and human experiences influenced my pen to keep weaving, keeping me whole and helping me survive. I love meaningful poetry with a message—something that enlightens body and spirit and soothes as many times as you read it. I believe my book will connect the world spiritually through a sense of purpose and heal ailing hearts. This book is very special to me or anyone who feels the spirit of life that keeps its chemistry at balance, of what we all will become aware at some point in life. If you enjoy romancing the starry sky on the summit of a hill, Propagate soulful love that becomes immortal, If you value the goodness in life and making others happy, If scarifying gains you mental peace, If you love dearly and believe in love despite unrequited, Endure the pain of losing someone closest to your heart, If you dream big and believe in a fighter spirit, And have shed tears for someone who’s parted, If you have been broken badly and striving to heal, This book is for you. Much love, Dr. Javeria Hayat Khan

Former LAPD detective Mike Travis returns in a novel of sex, drugs, rock and roll—and murder—from the award-winning author of Roadhouse Blues. The mystery has fascinated the music industry since 1977—the year when some tapes went missing from the Stone Blossoms’ final recording session for one of the most anticipated rock albums of all time. The band’s charismatic leader committed suicide on the same day. Retired cop Mike Travis learns about the puzzling history in the worst way possible. After sailing from Catalina to his family’s old beach house in Kona, Hawaii, he discovers there’s been a bloodbath. Five victims have been murdered, including his childhood friend’s wife and a former Stone Blossoms guitarist, Danny Webb. And when his friend is suspected of going on a jealous rampage, it’s up to Travis to prove his innocence. Turns out Webb was involved in a multi-million-dollar deal—providing he could produce the lost tapes. Travis knows just how toxic greed can be, but even he’s not prepared for the violence to come . . . and just how close to home it will hit. “A fast-paced look at the dark side of music and greed. I couldn’t put it down.” —Brad Freeman, K-Hawaii Radio “The climax is fast-paced, just how a detective needs to work when he finally puts it all together.” —Rapport magazine

Campaign Ruby is a delightful combination of fashion, faux pas and the unexpected fun of federal politics. Meet Ruby Stanhope: late-twenties, workaholic investment banker, Notting Hill fashionista. But that was yesterday. Today Ruby is retrenched, hungover, £2000 poorer - holding a same-day, non-refundable ticket to Melbourne. Arriving in the middle of a heatwave, she meets the Leader of the Opposition at a party and is drafted to work on his election campaign. Out of her depth, and dealing with a breakneck schedule, a hot (off-limits) journalist, imminent deportation and a malfunctioning wardrobe, Ruby must do her best to win the election and find love. Jessica Rudd, 28, had three career changes in as many years - law, PR, politics - but is now going steady with her life as a writer. She hopes Ruby Blues, sequel to Campaign Ruby, will give her readers as many laughs as she had writing it. Jessica is based in Beijing. 'From the first page...you know you are in for a fabulous time. It's a roller-coaster, high-heeled adventure...filled with intriguing media moments, wardrobe disasters, travelling hiccups and a selection of romantic encounters. Extremely enjoyable.' Woman's Day 'Jessica Rudd's debut novel is a light-hearted, skilfully written political romp...Her language is fresh and she is all the more impressive because of the momentum she sustains, a rarity among first-time novelists. Campaign Ruby is the Gen Y comedy of manners par excellence...If Kevin Rudd had been as funny as his daughter, our nation's history might be different. She has all the "values" - family, loyalty, friendship - but doesn't take herself too seriously; she has a charming gift for language...comedy writing is never easy, but a comedy of political manners - how cool is that?' Natasha Stott Despoja, Age 'Rudd is very good at balancing the serious side of politic with the slapstick antics that are de rigueur in chick lit. There are comic moments that are genuinely snort-worthy...Rudd's pacing throughout is excellent - there's rarely a moment where the narrative energy flags - and she has a great ear for dialogue.' Weekend Australian 'Think Bridget Jones on the campaign trail with some surprising humour.' Hobart Mercury
