Requiem. A kingdom forged in flame and blood. A kingdom for those who can grow wings, blow fire, and take to the sky as dragons. After a long war, Requiem is founded and her columns rise. Yet Requiem will never know peace so long as Raem, the cruel Demon King, still lurks in his underground realm. Forever he plagues the dragons of Requiem, sending enemies to burn their forests and topple their halls. The dragons of Requiem have repelled attacks on their kingdom, yet now they must fly to their most dangerous battlefield. For the first time, Requiem's dragons will go underground, into the Abyss itself . . . and face the Demon King in darkness. _____________ THE REQUIEM SERIES: Requiem: Dawn of Dragons Book 1: Requiem's Song Book 2: Requiem's Hope Book 3: Requiem's Prayer Requiem: Song of Dragons Book 1: Blood of Requiem Book 2: Tears of Requiem Book 3: Light of Requiem Requiem: Dragonlore Book 1: A Dawn of Dragonfire Book 2: A Day of Dragon Blood Book 3: A Night of Dragon Wings Requiem: The Dragon War Book 1: A Legacy of Light Book 2: A Birthright of Blood Book 3: A Memory of Fire Requiem: Requiem for Dragons Book 1: Dragons Lost Book 2: Dragons Reborn Book 3: Dragons Rising Requiem: Flame of Requiem Book 1: Forged in Dragonfire Book 2: Crown of Dragonfire Book 3: Pillars of Dragonfire Requiem: Dragonfire Rain Book 1: Blood of Dragons Book 2: Rage of Dragons Book 3: Flight of Dragons

Since time immemorial, the response of the living to death has been to commemorate the life of the departed through ceremonies and rituals. For nearly two millennia, the Christian quest for eternal peace has been expressed in a poetic-musical structure known as the requiem. Traditional requiem texts, among them the anonymous medieval Latin poem Dies Irae ('Day of Wrath'), have inspired an untold number of composers in different ages and serving different religions, Western and Eastern. This book, the first comprehensive survey of requiem music for nearly half a century, provides a great deal of diverse and detailed information that will be of use to the professional musician, the musical scholar, the choral conductor, the theologian and liturgist, and the general reader. The main body of the guide is a description of some 250 requiems. Each entry includes a concise biography of the composer and a description of the composition. Details of voicing, orchestration, editions, and discography are given. An extensive bibliography includes dictionaries, encyclopedias, prayer books, monographs, and articles. An appendix lists more than 1700 requiems not discussed within the main text.

R.J. Urquhart provides the first systematic description of the ceremonial of the Sarum Mass in 500 years. Using a variety of sources, and tracing the Sarum rite and its occasional use from the Act of Supremacy through to modern times, Urquhart has compiled a volume that offers the best possible reconstruction and overview of these profoundly beautiful rites from the liturgical treasury of the Church. Urquhart considers Sarum in the light of Pope Benedict XVI's groundbreaking apostolic constitution, Anglicanorum Coetibus, and how this has reopened the question of the catholicity of part of the Anglican patrimony. He also considers the impact of Pope Benedict's Summorum Pontificum and its proposition that what was sacred for earlier generations remains sacred now, arguing that this supremely pastoral teaching calls for a more profound and detailed study of the rite. Urquhart covers all aspects of the ritual, beginning with an outline of the vessels, books and vestments and then moving on to outline both Low and High Mass, special forms, processions and blessings, and the ritual year. Appendices cover the role of the laity, and offer an Ordo Missae with simple rubrics.

The present edition is the first volume of three. Collectively, these editions form a critical anthology of requiem masses composed by musicians of San Marco over a long period extending from the late sixteenth century to the closing years of the nineteenth century. The featured musicians of this first edition—Giovanni Croce (ca. 1557–1609) and Giovanni Rovetta (ca. 1596–1668)—may not be very familiar today, and their contributions to music-making at San Marco may not be deemed equal in stature to other masters such as Claudio Monteverdi and Francesco Cavalli, but they were indisputably highly influential figures at different points in Venice’s (and San Marco’s) past. Both requiems are relics of the a cappella tradition at San Marco during the early baroque era, when the famous cathedral served as the doge’s private chapel. These requiem settings are highly accessible, and they function as effectively today as they did in the distant past.
