Excerpt from Reports of Practice Cases, Determined in the Courts of the State of New York, Vol. 1: With a Digest of All Points of Practice Embraced in the Standard New York Reports, Issued During the Period Covered by This Volume, With References to the Amendatory Acts of 1855 The present volume is the first of a new series of reports of practice cases in the courts of the State of New York. Since the commencement of the changes in the system of procedure in courts of justice, which have for some time been taking place in this State, the necessity of prompt and accessible information upon the decisions of points of practice, has been much felt by the profession. It is the aim of this series to assist in supplying that want But while decisions under the Code 5'of' Procedure form the most numerous and important class of the cases here reported, we have by no means confined the series to such. Cases illustrative of criminal practice, of practice in special proceedings, of the rules of evidence, &c., are to a considerable extent embraced in the plan. But while we have intended that these reports shall cover a tolerably broad field in this respect, we have endeavored to confine the selection of cases, principally to such as are likely to possess a permanent value and authority. We have not intended that these reports shall be a mere magazine of the current judicial news of the day. But a selection of standard cases, such as promise to be useful guides to the practitioner for many years to come This object will be steadily kept in view in future volumes. And as we hope, with increased success. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
