Excerpt from Annual Reports of the Officers and Committees of the Town of Townsend, Mass., For the Year Ending March 1, 1884 IN compliance with custom and the requirements of the law, the School Committee of Townsend herewith respectfully submit to their fellow citizens the Annual Report for the school year ending March, eighteen hundred and eighty-four. The town has maintained during the three terms of the year, four teen schools, and in the Spring term, fifteen. 'but owing to the decrease in the number of scholars in the Town Farm district, it has not been thought advisable to hold a school in that section of the town the last two terms. The appropriation has been sufficient to continue all the schools thirty weeks. This is none too long. In some of the Districts, notably the Proctor and Bayberry Hill, the schools are very small, while a few, perhaps, are a little crowded.
