This is the first truly comprehensive and most up-to-date handbook available on modern reflector antennas and feed sources for diversified space and ground applications. There has never been such an all-encompassing reflector handbook in print, and no currently available title offers coverage of such recent research developments. The Handbook consists of three volumes. Volume III focuses on the range of reflector antenna applications, including space, terrestrial, and radar. The intent of this book volume is to provide practical applications and design information on reflector antennas used for several communications systems. This book covers recent developments of reflector antennas used for satellite communications, terrestrial communications, and remote sensing applications. New subjects are introduced for the first time, including satellite antennas, Terahertz antennas, PIM, multipaction, corona, deployable mesh reflector antennas, and mechanical aspects of reflector antennas. In addition, this book contains a separate topic on integrated feed assembly for reflector antennas covering analysis, design, fabrication, and test.

Excerpt from Reflector, Vol. 9: February, 1931 What a glorious thing it is to travel! How wonderful it is to see, in reality, those places and things about which we read! And what pleasant memories these jaunts of ours bring back to us! Perhaps you would like to look back on my memories with me. Let me tell you about the first ocean trip I ever took. That was when I was eight years old. My father had been ordered to Santo Domingo. Naturally, his family must follow him. Mother and I sailed from this same old Boston Harbor. In three days we arrived at Norfolk, Vir ginia, where we were to take the army trans port. Well, that transport was the worst I have ever seen. It is an ex-german ship and makes only from ten to eleven knots full speed. Of course, you know what it is to be a bad sailor. I found that out about an hour after we sailed. Excerpt from Reflector, Vol. 9: Number Two, Christmas Issue 1930 He then forced the collar into my hands and strode away. He did not wait for me, but shouldered his pack and plunged into the jungle. Although I hunted for hours, I could find no trace of him. To this day, I do not know whether the Sahib who loved a little white dog ever reached civilization. Author: Satish K. Sharma
Publisher: Artech House
Total Pages: 323
Release: 2013-07-01
Genre: Technology & Engineering
ISBN: 160807515X

This is the first truly comprehensive and most up-to-date handbook available on modern reflector antennas and feed sources for diversified space and ground applications. There has never been such an all-encompassing reflector handbook in print, and no currently available title offers coverage of such recent research developments. The Handbook consists of three volumes. Volume I provides a unique combination of theoretical underpinnings with design considerations and techniques. The need for knowledge in reflector antennas has grown steadily over the last two decades due to increased use in space and ground applications, as well as their high gain and wide bandwidth capabilities at relatively low cost. This volume brings you to the leading edge of developments in the field related to numerical techniques, classical reflector geometries, adaptive reflector antennas, shaped reflectors, bifocal and bicollimated dual reflectors, advanced reflectors, and reflect arrays. A must-have reference for both practicing engineers as well as academic researchers.

Excerpt from The Reflector, 1917, Vol. 9 For six years, Greensboro was fortunate in having as City Superintendent of Schools, Dr. James L. Mann, of South Carolina - a teacher of sound scholar ship, wide experience, and national reputation. It would be superfluous to recall to students of the Greensboro High School his record as Superintendent or to remind them of the many improvements made in the system during his adminis tration. They remember well the pride with which they entered the new high school building; they look back and count the numerous grammar schools that have been built one by one in all parts of the city; they tell visiting debating teams, with perhaps some arrogance, that our high school graduates are now admitted without condition to the best colleges of the South, and that those students are winning honors in the colleges to which they have gone, - and they naturally feel that a large part of this glory belongs to the man who laid the foundations and directed the work in Greensboro. Dr. Mann's persona] influence in the high school will long be felt, and his daily visits, a point of contact between him and the student body, will always be missed. We shall never forget those masterly orations in the chapel, those out bursts of scathing sarcasm against the folly of our generation, those unsparing phillipics against the lawless youth of our school, those humorous pictures of American life that made chapel an occasion, or those more serious talks that made it the most important part of the day. When a busy superintendent finds time to talk with the students here and there, when he takes the trouble to know by name each of the five thousand children in his system, when he makes their interests his interests, and his time their time, he becomes in effect not merely a director but also a part of the system under his supervision. Such was Dr. Mann. Clean-cut in his opinions, just in his requirements, de cisive in his administration, friendly in his bearing. One needs only to listen to realize the feeling that still exists for him in the Greensboro High School. It is for this reason that we are trying to show our loyalty and appreciation of his services in dedicating to him this volume of the Reflector. Volume II focuses on feed sources. Reflector antennas are extraordinary devices that combine high gain with geometrical simplicity, and can operate in broad frequency bands. Their performance, however, depends on the electrical characteristics of the feed system with which they operate. This comprehensive volume provides you with a solid understanding of feed system theory, design, and analysis. Featuring chapters authored by experts in each aspect of feed systems, this book takes you from fundamental mathematical techniques, electrically small and large dual reflectors, feed geometry and telemetry, tracking and command antennas, and more. Throughout the book numerous examples are provided to guide you in the practical aspects of feed design.
