Typically, discussions of the uranium production cycle are focused on either the economic extraction of resources, or on the environmental and remediation aspects as parallel aspects in a linear cradle-to-grave process. In this publication, resource evaluation is expanded to the full life of the mine to include evaluation of resources in residual waste products. This is viewed in the context of potential reuse or remining of so-called anthropogenic resources in a circular economy. The publication is intended to not only provide a preliminary inventory of uranium contained in mine wastes including the desirable goal of comprehensive extraction in the (uranium) mining industry, but also to provide an initial framework to integrate this aim with those of environmental and remediation considerations in achieving zero waste.

This report contains the first International Atomic Energy Agency projection of uranium supply and demand to 2050 and provides an understanding of how some alternative uranium supply scenarios could evolve over the period. The analysis is based on the current knowledge of uranium resources and production facilities, and takes into account the premise that they can operate with minimal environmental impact and employ the best practices in planning, operations, decommissioning and closure.

The World Distribution of Uranium Deposits (UDEPO) is a database on technical, geographical and geological characteristics of worldwide uranium deposits. Its purpose is to provide reliable and up-to-date information on the uranium deposits in the world. The UDEPO contains information on the location of deposits, the amount of uranium and average uranium grade in the deposits, geological type of the deposits, status of the deposits, operating organizations (if the deposit is being mined) and other technical and geological details about the deposits. It covers not only operational mines but also depleted or dormant deposits in order to provide an overview of past operations and future possibilities in addition to the existing uranium production information. This publication, with attached CD-ROM, is a snapshot of the database as of the end of 2008.--Publisher's description.
