"And we sailed away at close of day, Nor thought it rery hard'o, To leave behind in Wallabout Bay, Paddy D'yle and the old Guardo. VHEN I awoke in the morning I could hardly realize where I was, it seemed so strange not to hear the boatswain's hoarse cry, "Up all hammocks." I rubbed my eyes and thought that I must be dreaming. Excerpt from Recollections of a Sailor, Vol. 1 They have answered the object for which they were originally penned. As they have been not altogether unacceptable to the readers of the Nautical Magazine, where they first, and only very recently, appeared, the Author is induced to repub lish them in the hope that they may be at least equally so to the general public. If the anticipation of the future be pleasant, and it is often more pleasant than the realisation, the recollections of past labours are not less agreeable.
