This edited collection brings together a selection of papers originally presented at the Legal Services Research Centre's seventh international research conference held at the Royal Naval Academy, Greenwich, London, 18 - 20 June 2008. The papers, drawn from three continents, shed light on how major legal aid jusrisdictions are facing the challenge of providing, shaping and extending the reach of legal aid in the face of increasing pressure on resources. The papers give an insight into the role of research in the development of legal aid and are linked in their focus on innovations: from schemes to encourage the next generation of legal aid lawyers, to services built around needs of users and communities, to methods for ensuring quality of services and mechanisms to deliver services for, and engage, "hard-to-reach" and disadvantaged groups.

The introduction of the term periglacial by Lozinski in 1909 to describe the cold-climate conditions in the zone adjacent to, but beyond, the Pleistocene glaciers encouraged the separate development of geocryological and glaciological research. Geological and geomorphological processes at the interface between glaciers and permafrost have, as a result, been given less attention than they warrant, and the influence of one on the other has in many respects been neglected. This book includes a collection of papers that emphasize glacier-permafrost interactions. Papers consider permafrost and its influence on glacitectonic processes, glacial meltwater systems and ground-ice development in proglacial and ice-marginal environments. In addition, recent research findings are reported on paraglacial processes, permafrost evolution, rock glaciers, the formation of ice-wedge casts and periglacial slope evolution. It is hoped that this book will stimulate interest in the interface between glacial and periglacial systems, and encourage further collaborative research involving glaciologists and glacial geologists on the one hand, and geocryologists and permafrost scientists on the other.

Using a pedagogical concept similar to game-based approaches such as Teaching Games for Understanding (TGfU) and Game Sense, this book explores the teaching and learning of modified games in physical education and sports. It includes examples of innovative games designed to create a rich learning environment. The book presents a pedagogical model that structures game design to fit the needs of every specific group of students, enabling physical educators and coaches to design their own games and teach within a game-based approach. The book focuses on eight sports – soccer, basketball, handball, rugby, volleyball, badminton, softball and cricket – and for each sport it introduces a series of learning conditions that gradually increase in technical and tactical complexity. These conditions are supported with commonly seen game play scenarios, providing meaningful opportunities for developing awareness of technical and tactical solutions. Game-Based Pedagogy in Physical Education and Sports is a vital read for students of physical education teacher education (PETE), sport coaching, and sports pedagogy. It is also a valuable resource for physical educators and coaches.

Management models: many students will come across them in their studies, yet it is only when actually working with them that the function and benefit of management models are revealed. 101 Management Models gives a comprehensive overview of traditional models as well as innovations in management models. To allow quick access to the models, several indexes are provided, arranged by objective, discipline and author. All models are discussed in a transparent format: the fundamentals of the management model; its application; the result; the pitfalls. This intuitive and accessible textbook will be useful for all students of management - particularly those coming at the topic from another background such as economics or engineering and is supported by a companion website: http://www.managementmodels-englishedition.noordhoff.nl/
