This reprint is an effort to preserve the original work of David Lawrence Dalton published in 1946 with the title "History of Randolph County." His book gives a comprehensive history of Randolph County up to the time of its publication. In this edition, Jon Hamil Luer republishes this book and enhances it with material from his family's oral and written history.

By: Lawrence Dalton, Pub. 1946, Reprinted 2021, 408 pages, ISBN #978-1-63914-018-3. Randolph County was created in 1835 from Lawrence County and is located within the Ozark region along the Missouri border. This book is not too different from other county history books of this era. With such topics as towns, trade and transportation, labor, farming, politics, and race relations - all important in the development of the county - are carefully discussed. This type of county history book can help one develop ideas or paths to those missing ancestors by showing the customs and traditions of the local residents. A particular useful feature of this book are the biographical sketches of the following persons: Athy, Bryan, Campbell, Dalton (3), Decker, Davis-Spikes, Hite, Hogan (2), Ingram, Jarrett, Johnston, Johnson, Haynes, Holt, Lamb, McCarroll, Mock, Marlette, Maynard, Martin, Rickman, Ruff, Shride, Stubblefield, Schoonover, Smith, Shaver, Spikes, Taylor, McColgan, Thompson, Lemmons, Price, Wyatt and White.

About this volume This book will only be of interest to readers interested in the historical references and source material for the names in the genealogies in volume 2, The Randolph Family, Their Continental European Ancestors, History, and Genealogy Volume 2. This is the third in a series of three volumes concerning the history and genealogy of the Randolph family in Virginia, England, Scotland, and virtually all other European countries. Volume 3 contains only the genealogical reference and historical source material for volume 2. Volume 2 requires over 5,000 genealogical references with 394 pages. This is too many to include in volume 2 itself, so they are contained here in volume 3. About the other two volumes Volume 1 concerns the history and genealogy of the Randolph family in Scotland, England, colonial Virginia, and the United States of America. In addition to the Randolphs, it includes the histories and genealogies of seven important English families that are ancestors of the Randolphs. Volume 2 concerns the histories and genealogies of the Randolph family's ancestors across Europe. There are a great many excellent books about the Randolph family, but to my knowledge most of this material has not been published in connection with the Randolph family before. Due to intermarriage between the noble families of Europe, the Randolphs are descended from families in virtually every European country as well as the Middle East.
