Some of horse racing's most respected authorities looked at feats of greatness, world records, legendary rivalries, and innovations to rank the sport's top 100 moments. They weighed individual accomplishments against industry initiatives, innovations against lucky breaks to come up with the definitive list. They pondered Secretariat's 31-length Belmont Stakes victory, Smarty Jones' elusive Triple Crown, the creation of the Breeders' Cup, and advancements in equine surgery. Racing's top 100 list will generate debate for years to come, just as did the ranking of Man o' War over Secretariat as Horse of the Century. Richly illustrated with historic and modern photos, Horse Racing's Top 100 Moments also contains comprehensive lists of leading earners, fastest times, highest prices, and most races won.

At the Ragged Edge chronicles the world's fastest boats and among the most extraordinary of sports spectacles. The focus is on the lives of two of the sport's most famous competitors: Gar Wood was a mechanical genius and a perfectionist. A self-made millionaire who once held more patents than any other living American, he devoted his considerable fortune and skills to becoming the world's greatest speedboat driver. Whether he was fighting off the challenges of racers from other nations, setting speed records, or racing a train down the Hudson River as a publicity stunt, Gar Wood always managed to create a good story for the press and, in the process, became a phenomenon. He was brash, had a vivid imagination and, through his many exploits, became the first to cast national attention on the sport of boatracing. Bill Muncey was a showman and a strategist. At once both cocky and self-effacing, he understood marketing and competed at a time when the ability to represent the sponsor was nearly as important as the ability to push one's foot to the throttle. But, he was skilled on the racecourse, too. He knew how to get the best from his equipment and, most maddening to those he raced against, had the uncanny ability to get into the heads of his fellow competitors and take appropriate advantage. Driving boats capable of traveling the length of a football field in one second, without so much as a seat belt to hold him into his open cockpit, he also knew the sport's danger, the tragedy of losing friends, and the pain of his own harrowing accidents. Along the way, you'll also meet Chris Smith and Ted Jones, two designers and boat builders who would revolutionize the sport; Henry Segrave, one of England's most decorated racers; and Bernie Little, a brash millionaire who spared no expense to have the fastest boat possible. Together, these characters, and many more, tell the fascinating story of hydroplane racing's first one hundred years.

I am not an expert authority on domestic violence or abuse. I'm simply one victim who survived, and as a way of healing, I've written this book and a companion novel called The Broken Pianist. I hope there are readers who find comfort or courage from my written words. These poems and short stories are written from my heart, pulled from my own experience with an abusive man and my eventual escape. Too often, I think women believe they've simply "made their bed" with this man and have to suffer the consequences. He's just a grumpy codger and most marriages have unhappy challenges...but wrong, it may be more than that. In my experience, a narcissistic abuser will first play the "feel sorry for me" card to kick up your mothering instinct. He wants you to let him into your life quickly so you don't have time to examine the man behind the sudden mood changes, the jealousy, the bossiness... those bad behaviors may only get worse with time. Take time to get to know him thoroughly before you commit to a long-term relationship. You may find these poems and short stories as a bit deep or sorrowful; meaningful or powerful, but I've written them to perhaps bring the reader courage or understanding. Abuse can be traumatic, and as a victim, you never truly ever get over it. But you can get out. Start over and be the kind of woman you can be proud of.
