Written for students with a background in algebra, this text provides a complete and modern treatment of basic management science methodology. The authors survey the variety and power of management science tools, working to alleviate students' apprehension about the subject and to enable students to recognize on-the-job situations in which management science methodology can be successfully employed. Emphasizing modeling skills for students of varying mathematical backgrounds, the authors explain how to use Microsoft Excel spreadsheets to build skills as they work through problems. In general, problems are broken into several parts to make difficult concepts easy for students to learn. This book's modular structure affords instructors maximum flexibility. This text contains a special student version of Palisade Corporation's DecisionTools Suite, containing @Risk, PrecisionTree, BestFit, TopRank and RiskView. This software is expressly provided for student use and requires student authorization to unlock the software for its full one year license. Professional customers may use the software for 30 days at which point they must contact Palisade Corporation for a professional version should they wish to continue using the software.

Quantitative Methods for Decision Making is a comprehensive guide that provides students with the key techniques and methodology they will need to successfully engage with all aspects of quantitative analysis and decision making; both on their undergraduate course, and in the larger context of their future business environments. Organized in accordance with the enterprise functional structure where the decision making takes place, the textbook encompasses a broad range of functions, each detailed with clear examples illustrated through the single application tool Microsoft Excel. The authors approach a range of methods which are divided into major enterprise functions such as marketing, sales, business development, manufacturing, quality control and finance; illustrating how the methods can be applied in practice and translated into a working environment. Each chapter is packed with short case studies to exemplify the practical use of techniques, and contains a wealth of exercises after key sections and concepts, giving students the opportunity to monitor their own progress using the solutions at the back of the book. An Online Resource Centre accompanies the text and includes: For students: - Numerical skills workbook with additional exercises, questions and content - Data from the examples and exercises in the book - Online glossary of terms - Revision tips - Visual walkthrough videos covering the application of a range of quantitative methods - Appendices to the book For lecturers: - Instructor's manual including solutions from the text and a guide to structuring lectures and seminars - PowerPoint presentations - Test bank with questions for each chapter - Suggested assignment and examination questions

Over the past decade there has been an increasing demand for suitable material in the area of mathematical modelling as applied to science, engineering, business and management. Recent developments in computer technology and related software have provided the necessary tools of increasing power and sophistication which have significant implications for the use and role of mathematical modelling in the above disciplines. In the past, traditional methods have relied heavily on expensive experimentation and the building of scaled models, but now a more flexible and cost effective approach is available through greater use of mathematical modelling and computer simulation. In particular, developments in computer algebra, symbolic manipulation packages and user friendly software packages for large scale problems, all have important implications in both the teaching of mathematical modelling and, more importantly, its use in the solution of real world problems. Many textbooks have been published which cover the art and techniques of modelling as well as specific mathematical modelling techniques in specialist areas within science and business. In most of these books the mathematical material tends to be rather tailor made to fit in with a one or two semester course for teaching students at the undergraduate or postgraduate level, usually the former. This textbook is quite different in that it is intended to build on and enhance students’ modelling skills using a combination of case studies and projects.

Practical Spreadsheet Modeling Using @Risk provides a guide of how to construct applied decision analysis models in spreadsheets. The focus is on the use of Monte Carlo simulation to provide quantitative assessment of uncertainties and key risk drivers. The book presents numerous examples based on real data and relevant practical decisions in a variety of settings, including health care, transportation, finance, natural resources, technology, manufacturing, retail, and sports and entertainment. All examples involve decision problems where uncertainties make simulation modeling useful to obtain decision insights and explore alternative choices. Good spreadsheet modeling practices are highlighted. The book is suitable for graduate students or advanced undergraduates in business, public policy, health care administration, or any field amenable to simulation modeling of decision problems. The book is also useful for applied practitioners seeking to build or enhance their spreadsheet modeling skills. Features Step-by-step examples of spreadsheet modeling and risk analysis in a variety of fields Description of probabilistic methods, their theoretical foundations, and their practical application in a spreadsheet environment Extensive example models and exercises based on real data and relevant decision problems Comprehensive use of the @Risk software for simulation analysis, including a free one-year educational software license
