Dredged material from adjacent rivers and embayments have been placed in Puget Sound marine waters for nearly a century. Recent concern for the potential impact of these materials on the biological resources of Puget Sound waters (and ultimately on public health) has encouraged the development of a government funded program to address this concern. The Puget Sound Dredged Disposal Analysis (PSSDA) is an interagency consortium charged with the responsibility of selecting the best approach to dredged material disposal in Puget Sound. Major objectives of PSDDA are to: 1) designate sites for long-term, unconfined, open-water disposal of dredged material in Puget Sound; 2) develop evaluation procedures for determining the suitability of dredged material for confined open-water disposal and for determining the suitability of dredged material for confined disposal options; and 3) develop management plans for the disposal sites. This report contains a summary of the review of previously collected published and unpublished data on Pudget Sound which are relevant to the ZSF's studied, and presents the results of the field checking studies.
