White ex-convict Cal Winter returns to his home in Oakland, California, one day to find his gorgeous, young, black wife, Prudence, drowned in the swimming pool. Prudence couldn’t swim, and Cal concludes she didn’t go in the water willingly. Though theirs was a marriage of convenience, he takes the murder personally. Along with his prison homie Red Eye, Cal sets out to find out who did Prudence in. His convoluted and often darkly humorous journey takes him deep into the world of the sexual urges of the rich and powerful, and gradually reveals the many layers of his wife’s complex identity. While doing so, Cal and Red Eye must confront their own racially charged pasts if the killer is to be caught. Author James Kilgore has woven together strands of his own quixotic and complicated life—twenty-seven years as a political fugitive, two decades as a teacher in Africa, and six years in prison—into a heady tale of mystery and consequences.

Zoey's family has a strange feeling about the two-tailed comet in the sky. But that doesn’t mean Zoey will let them chaperone her class field trip to Reelfoot Lake, Tennessee—especially since Grandma Cope grew up near there. What if Grandma tells everyone about being a Native American? Zoey has no interest in her family’s past. All she wants is for her parents to get back together, and for herself to fit in at school. She doesn’t know what’s hit her when, during the bus ride to Reelfoot, she’s propelled back in time to 1811, when the lake was formed! Now Zoey’s cell phone doesn’t work, there’s no fast food in sight, and massive earthquakes keep rattling the land. Prim, proper Prudence Charity and her way-too-pregnant mother are the first people Zoey sees, but they don’t believe her story—until they meet up with Chickasaw Chief Kalopin and his beautiful Choctaw bride. Kalopin is convinced that the Great Spirit has cursed him for stealing Laughing Eyes from Chief Copiah, and that soon, the river will swallow up his village and everyone in it. Zoey knows they’re headed for disaster, but can she find the courage to save them?

I wrote Philosophy of Motivation for the reader to understand motivation and the importance of being self-motivated. Many authors have written books about philosophy, but few of them have written about practical philosophy. This book explains how philosophy of motivation can help somebody be self-motivated in real life. Being motivated does not show in one's appearance; it is about helping each other and learning from each other. As long as we are thinking of our dreams, we can benefit other people and motivate ourselves as well. Everybody has the ability to help other people, and doing favours for others will make one feel better as well. Through my research, I discovered that when there are many philosophers, there will be many different ideas as well. So there will be as many philosophers as there are philosophies. In this book, I discuss many points that can help communities and entire countries be motivated in everything that they do. I encourage readers to be filled with motivation because dreams cannot be allowed to die, even when contrary philosophical concepts come to destroy them. I believe that every human being has a talent, for nobody was created by mistake. Somebody's talent can be dependent on the environment where the person lives. I personally like this book because I felt motivated when writing it. I believe that being self-motivated is the key to success and achieving a good goal. The reader will understand that happiness does not mean winning a lottery but achieving one's dream.
