A first-hand account of the experiences of a young Canadian airwoman who served both in Canada and on overseas duty, this series of 150 letters brings home the day-to-day immediacy of life in uniform during the Second World War. Moments of hilarity interspersed with impatience and frustration are recorded verbatim, along with an underlying sense of urgency about winning a war that hung in the balance for too long. Written to the Dead of Women at Macdonald College in Ste. Anne de Bellevue, Mary Buch's letters lay untouched for over fifty years after her return to Canada from England in 1945. Today they serve as a looking-glass into the War Years that is tinged with the freshness of youthful spontaneity and the promise of a brighter tomorrow. Carolyn Gossage has interwoven colourful contextual sidebars that provide today's reader with an overview of times and circumstances that have become increasingly elusive in the intervening years.

It was the “Good War.” Its cause was just; it ended the depression; and Canada’s contribution was nothing less than stellar. Canadians had every reason to applaud themselves, and the heroes that made the nation proud. But the dark truth was that not all Canadians were saints or soldiers. Indeed, many were sinners. In this eye-opening and captivating reassessment of Canadian commitment to the cause, some disturbing questions come to light. Were citizens working as hard as possible to back the war effort? Was there illegal profiting from the conflict? Did Canadian society suffer from a general decline of “morality” during the war? Would women truly “back the attack” in new factory jobs and the military, and then quietly return home? Would unattended youth produce a crisis with juvenile delinquency? How would Canada reintegrate a million veterans who, policy-makers feared, would create a social crisis if treated like their Great War counterparts? The first-ever synthesis of both the patriotic and the problematic in wartime Canada, Saints, Sinners, and Soldiers shows how moral and social changes, and the fears they generated, precipitated numerous, and often contradictory, legacies in law and society. From labour conflicts, to the black market, to prostitution, and beyond, Keshen acknowledges the underbelly of Canada’s Second World War, and demonstrates that the “Good War” was a complex tapestry of social forces – not all of which were above reproach.

Mito, EDS, Proxy, Toxo, Pain, and Fail will take you on a rollercoaster ride of emotions, leaving you questioning the very fabric of our society. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The plot was FANTASTIC. I've read a lot of stories about foster children, but never anything quite like what happens in Mito. I never even realized that medical kidnap could very well be a thing happening "behind the scenes" in foster care, but after reading this book my mind is blown. I just. Wow. I don't want to go into a whole lot of detail so I think I might stop this review here, but, gah. I can't even form words I'm so freaking mind blown. This book was amazing!! Britt, Goodreads Reader Join Gabriel and Renata on their courageous journey to expose the truth and save innocent lives. Get your copy of this gripping fiction series today and discover a world that will leave you breathless.

With a long string of unbelievable stories to explain her frequent injuries, Social Services sees Katt is the stereotypical abused child. When she is admitted to hospital with yet another broken bone, they do the only logical thing to protect her, removing Katt from her mother’s custody. But Katt and her mother know that something is wrong, and it has nothing to do with abuse, and the longer Katt stays in foster care, the worse her health gets. Can they get the answers they need before it is too late? Can they get the answers and get Katt back home? ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ I was drawn to these books because I have two friends with EDS. They complain that anytime EDS is featured in a book or on TV the writers just don't get it right. Although the friends have a lot more symptoms that the main character in the story I feel like the author got a lot of this condition correct. Great book!
