This book, now in a carefully revised second edition, provides an up-to-date account of Oka theory, including the classical Oka-Grauert theory and the wide array of applications to the geometry of Stein manifolds. Oka theory is the field of complex analysis dealing with global problems on Stein manifolds which admit analytic solutions in the absence of topological obstructions. The exposition in the present volume focuses on the notion of an Oka manifold introduced by the author in 2009. It explores connections with elliptic complex geometry initiated by Gromov in 1989, with the Andersén-Lempert theory of holomorphic automorphisms of complex Euclidean spaces and of Stein manifolds with the density property, and with topological methods such as homotopy theory and the Seiberg-Witten theory. Researchers and graduate students interested in the homotopy principle in complex analysis will find this book particularly useful. It is currently the only work that offers a comprehensive introduction to both the Oka theory and the theory of holomorphic automorphisms of complex Euclidean spaces and of other complex manifolds with large automorphism groups.

This book focuses on complex geometry and covers highly active topics centered around geometric problems in several complex variables and complex dynamics, written by some of the world’s leading experts in their respective fields. This book features research and expository contributions from the 2013 Abel Symposium, held at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology Trondheim on July 2-5, 2013. The purpose of the symposium was to present the state of the art on the topics, and to discuss future research directions.

The KSCV Symposium, the Korean Conference on Several Complex Variables, started in 1997 in an effort to promote the study of complex analysis and geometry. Since then, the conference met semi-regularly for about 10 years and then settled on being held biannually. The sixth and tenth conferences were held in 2002 and 2014 as satellite conferences to the Beijing International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) and the Seoul ICM, respectively. The purpose of the KSCV Symposium is to organize the research talks of many leading scholars in the world, to provide an opportunity for communication, and to promote new researchers in this field.

All the new tools mentioned above apply to non-orientable minimal surfaces endowed with a fixed choice of a conformal structure. This enables the authors to obtain significant new applications to the global theory of non-orientable minimal surfaces. In particular, they construct proper non-orientable conformal minimal surfaces in Rn with any given conformal structure, complete non-orientable minimal surfaces in Rn with arbitrary conformal type whose generalized Gauss map is nondegenerate and omits n hyperplanes of CPn−1 in general position, complete non-orientable minimal surfaces bounded by Jordan curves, and complete proper non-orientable minimal surfaces normalized by bordered surfaces in p-convex domains of Rn.

Several Complex Variables and the Geometry of Real Hypersurfaces covers a wide range of information from basic facts about holomorphic functions of several complex variables through deep results such as subelliptic estimates for the ?-Neumann problem on pseudoconvex domains with a real analytic boundary. The book focuses on describing the geometry of a real hypersurface in a complex vector space by understanding its relationship with ambient complex analytic varieties. You will learn how to decide whether a real hypersurface contains complex varieties, how closely such varieties can contact the hypersurface, and why it's important. The book concludes with two sets of problems: routine problems and difficult problems (many of which are unsolved). Principal prerequisites for using this book include a thorough understanding of advanced calculus and standard knowledge of complex analysis in one variable. Several Complex Variables and the Geometry of Real Hypersurfaces will be a useful text for advanced graduate students and professionals working in complex analysis.

This monograph offers the first systematic treatment of the theory of minimal surfaces in Euclidean spaces by complex analytic methods, many of which have been developed in recent decades as part of the theory of Oka manifolds (the h-principle in complex analysis). It places particular emphasis on the study of the global theory of minimal surfaces with a given complex structure. Advanced methods of holomorphic approximation, interpolation, and homotopy classification of manifold-valued maps, along with elements of convex integration theory, are implemented for the first time in the theory of minimal surfaces. The text also presents newly developed methods for constructing minimal surfaces in minimally convex domains of Rn, based on the Riemann–Hilbert boundary value problem adapted to minimal surfaces and holomorphic null curves. These methods also provide major advances in the classical Calabi–Yau problem, yielding in particular minimal surfaces with the conformal structure of any given bordered Riemann surface. Offering new directions in the field and several challenging open problems, the primary audience of the book are researchers (including postdocs and PhD students) in differential geometry and complex analysis. Although not primarily intended as a textbook, two introductory chapters surveying background material and the classical theory of minimal surfaces also make it suitable for preparing Masters or PhD level courses.

This monograph explores the problem of boundary regularity and analytic continuation of holomorphic mappings between domains in complex Euclidean spaces. Many important methods and techniques in several complex variables have been developed in connection with these questions, and the goal of this book is to introduce the reader to some of these approaches and to demonstrate how they can be used in the context of boundary properties of holomorphic maps. The authors present substantial results concerning holomorphic mappings in several complex variables with improved and often simplified proofs. Emphasis is placed on geometric methods, including the Kobayashi metric, the Scaling method, Segre varieties, and the Reflection principle. Geometry of Holomorphic Mappings will provide a valuable resource for PhD students in complex analysis and complex geometry; it will also be of interest to researchers in these areas as a reference.

This textbook, based on a one-semester course taught several times by the authors, provides a self-contained, comprehensive yet concise introduction to the theory of pseudoholomorphic curves. Gromov’s nonsqueezing theorem in symplectic topology is taken as a motivating example, and a complete proof using pseudoholomorphic discs is presented. A sketch of the proof is discussed in the first chapter, with succeeding chapters guiding the reader through the details of the mathematical methods required to establish compactness, regularity, and transversality results. Concrete examples illustrate many of the more complicated concepts, and well over 100 exercises are distributed throughout the text. This approach helps the reader to gain a thorough understanding of the powerful analytical tools needed for the study of more advanced topics in symplectic topology. /divThis text can be used as the basis for a graduate course, and it is also immensely suitable for independent study. Prerequisites include complex analysis, differential topology, and basic linear functional analysis; no prior knowledge of symplectic geometry is assumed. This book is also part of the Virtual Series on Symplectic Geometry.
