The Auditing Committee reported, that they had examined the books of the Treasurer of the Education Society, as well as that of Synod, and find them correct. Committee on German Professorship made the following report: Your committee deem the early appointment of a German Professor in our University, as of the utmost importance for the successful cultivation of the spiritual harvest field into which God has invited us. We can therefore put 0fi' the responsibility of delay no longer, but deem it our solem duty to shun no effort or sacrifice in our power that may lead to the accomplishment of that end. We therefore offer the following resolutions: 1 ' 1, Resolved, That we appoint a committee of three, with the hope that our German brethren, in the Synod of North Illinois, will join us in this undertaking, to correspond immediately with a suitable man or men, with the view of filling that position. 2, Resoloecl, That said committee also correspond with 11 the German ministers and churches in the several Illinois Synods, with a view of getting them all to co-operate in car. rying out, for the support of said Professor, the plan adopted by our Scandinavian brethren, for the support of the Professor of those languages. 3, Resolved, That said committee be also authorized to procure, at its earliest opportunity, an agent to raise an endowment fund for said professorship.
