Excerpt from Proceedings of the Thirty-Eighth Annual Convention of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod of West Pennsylvania: Held at Shippensburg, Cumberland Co., Pa. September 11th to 13th, 1862 In consequence of a threatened invasion of our State by the Rebel army, now in Maryland, many of the brethren, residing at points exposed to the attacks of the invading foe, were not present on this evening. After the delivery of the Synodical sermon a short consultation was held, as to the expediency of proceeding with the transaction of Synodical business, or adjourning to some future day. The majority, notwithstanding the exciting rumors that were continually coming in, and the absence of a number of the brethren, ruled to proceed with the business session, and to meet on tomorrow morning, at 8 o'clock.
