Excerpt from A Journal of the Proceedings of the Senate of the First General Assembly of the State of Florida, at an Adjourned Session, Commenced on the Seventeenth Day of November, Eighteen Hundred and Forty-Five In making this recommendation to the General Assembly, it can hardly be supposed, that I am unadvised, as to our limited means for the support of the government and, that a proper regard for the in terests of the State, and the prosperity of the people, demands a rigid economy; and the recommendation of such measures only, as our urgent necessities may require yet, with such admonitions, and with that deep concern for the welfare and prosperity of the State, which individual interest and my obligations to support the Constitution ought to inspire - believing, (as I most certainly do, ) that the establishment of such a jurisdiction, apart from the common law courts, is indispensible to the administration of justice, a sense of duty to my fellow-citizens, and to myself, prompts me to submit. The subject to your attentive consideration. Nor can I permit myself to suppose, that the comparatively inconsiderable amount which may be found necessary for its proper and efficient organization, will have any great influence to prevent the adeption of a separate equity sys.
