Excerpt from Proceedings at a Reception in Honor of the Rev. O. B. Frothingham: Given by the Independent Liberal Church, at the Union League Theatre, Tuesday Evening, April 22, 1879, Together With the Report of the Farewell Sermon Delivered by Him at Masonic Temple April 27, 1879 Mr. Frothingham had, early in the year, announced his desire to seek rest, by travel abroad, from the severe intel lectual strain of an unbroken service of twenty years, and had tendered 'his resignation of the pastorate of the Inde pendent Liberal Church, to take effect from the Ist of May. The Trustees of the church, being unwilling to lose him altogether, had persuaded him to withdraw his resignation and to take a vacation of a year or more. Knowing the earnest desire of the members of his congregation to meet him once more socially, and, in giving him a farewell greet ing, to express in some measure their appreciation of his work for them and for the community, they resolved to invite the members of the Society, together with a few friends of Mr. Frothingham and of the cause, to meet him for that purpose, and appointed from their own number as a committee to make the necessary arrangements, H. Morse, Geo. Haven Putnam, and Frank Fuller. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
