Excerpt from Public Laws of the State of North-Carolina, Passed by the General Assembly, at Its Session of 1854-55: Together With the Comptroller's Statement of Public Revenue and Expenditure Sec; 1. Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the State of zvorth Carolina, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That it shall be the duty of the public treasurer to pay to the treasurer of the north-carolina Agricultural Society, on the first Monday of October, during each and every year, out of any moneys not otherwise appropriated, the sum of fifteen hundred dollars, to be disposed of in the payment of premiums, as hereinafter directed: Provided, however, That the treasurer of the said society shall first produce a certificate from the president thereof, showing that during the past twelve months the like sum has been raised by the said society for the same purposes.
