Objects: USA 2020 hails a new generation of artist-craftspeople by revisiting a groundbreaking event that redefined American art. In 1969, an exhibition opened at the Smithsonian Institution that redefined American art. Objects: USA united a cohort of artists inventing new approaches to art-making by way of craft media. Subsequently touring to twenty-two museums across the country, where it was viewed by over half a million Americans, and then to eleven cities in Europe, the exhibition canonized such artists as Anni Albers, Sheila Hicks, Wharton Esherick, Wendell Castle, and George Nakashima, and introduced others who would go on to achieve widespread art-world acclaim, including Dale Chihuly, Michele Oka Doner, J. B. Blunk, and Ron Nagle. Objects: USA 2020 revisits this revolutionary exhibition and its accompanying catalog--which has become a bible of sorts to curators, gallerists, dealers, craftspeople, and artists--by pairing fifty participants from the original exhibition with fifty contemporary artists representing the next generation of practitioners to use--and upend--the traditional methods and materials of craft to create new forms of art. Published to coincide with an exhibition of the same title at the renowned gallery R & Company, and featuring essays by some of the foremost authorities on craft at the intersection of art, including Glenn Adamson, curator and former director of the Museum of Arts & Design; James Zemaitis, curator and former head of twentieth-century design at Sotheby's; and Lena Vigna, curator of exhibitions at the Racine Art Musuem; an interview with Paul J. Smith, the cocurator of Objects: USA; archival photographs of the original exhibition and important historical works; and lush full-color images of contemporary works, Objects: USA 2020 is an essential art historical reference that traces how craft was elevated to the status of museum-quality art, and sets its trajectory forward.

Africa's subsoil is rich in hydrocarbons, precious and base metals, and rare metals that are particularly strategic for the global transition to a low-carbon economy. In this context, the continent's beautiful, serious, and pressing challenge is to ensure that the exploitation of its immense natural resources takes place in compliance with the best international standards in terms of sustainable development and transparent management. Then, the wealth created can contribute to the significant improvement of living conditions for the populations of the host countries, while ensuring the attractiveness and competitiveness vis-à-vis other major mining regions. The mining industry obviously has a central role to play in this dynamic. Balancing the interests of varying stakeholders and shareholders, including those often seen at odds like profitability and environmental and social responsibility, Unlocking Our Shared Value proposes a sustainable vision for the future of the extractives industry in West Africa. Targeted at an audience of corporate professionals and academics, this text thoroughly examines the diverse concerns and factors at play in responsible mining and corporate practice. For corporate executives, operational managers, and sustainability practitioners, this book will provide useful tools, strategies, best practices, and a roadmap to build, strengthen or realign the sustainability journey of their organizations, while helping investors have the whole picture of the risks and opportunities related to sustainability during their investment decisions. Therefore, this work will set a new level of corporate sustainability strategies within the extractive sector in West Africa and around the world.

The volume convenes English- and French-speaking Canadianists who share a broad reflection on issues of exclusion and inclusion in Canadian contexts. It is through historical, but also linguistic, cultural and literary perspectives that we can unveil and learn more about the particular instances of inclusion and exclusion. The volume offers a kaleidoscopic view of Canadian history, politics, literature, and culture. The collected essays provide a discussion on a number of contemporary Anglophone and Francophone literary works, the evaluation of Canadian language policy, the reflection upon the literary canon as well as challenges of literary translation in a bilingual country, the distinctness of Black Lives Matter Canada, and, last but not the least, the historical status of New France.

Africa needs power—power to enhance the welfare of its people and expand its economies. But Sub-Saharan Africa’s power sector has the lowest generation capacity in the world. Two-thirds of the regional population remains without electricity and even those with access consume the least among the world’s regions. Businesses say unreliable electricity is a major hurdle. Meanwhile, vast energy resources remain untapped. One possible solution is to leverage the mining industry’s substantial need for power as an anchor for energy infrastructure development. 'The Power of the Mine: A Transformative Opportunity for Sub-Saharan Africa' is the first study to systematically analyze both the potential and the challenges of power-mining integration. The findings show that industry demand for electricity can be a game changer. Mining operations often devote a quarter or more of operating costs to electricity. This consistent, high-volume demand can spur development of national power systems, thus expanding electrification for the populace. As a result, citizens can also benefit from safe, adequate access to electricity. Countries benefit from larger exports and tax revenues, more business and job opportunities, and higher GDP. Utilities benefit from having creditworthy mining partners as a core source of revenue that attracts investment. And mines benefit from the significant cost reductions a stable power grid provides. 'The Power of the Mine' will be of interest to policymakers, researchers, and business analysts engaged in energy infrastructure development.
