This guide was developed out of a 5-year project aimed at preventing the transmission of the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) by promoting HIV prevention and AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) education in school health programs. This document includes recommendations of a January, 1989 forum which addressed HIV prevention education for special education students, results of a review of existing curricula, and information on a training model which calls for teams of health educators and special educators to collaborate on the planning and delivery of instruction.
