Pretty Pieces is a fresh banquet of poems to engage the mind and soothe the spirit. Tributes to Kobe Bryant and The Charlotte 9 are just appetizers in the well-rounded meal she presents. The meaty entrees pay homage to her Philly hometown with Wait in the City for Me and God’s Grace. Introspective refl ections on her personal battle with breast cancer are more than side dishes. Her insights challenge us to honor marriage, be honest with ourselves and those we say we love and of course, there’s always some humor to round out the poetic meal. Deeci continues to present poetry that is insightful and relevant. She remains unafraid to highlight today’s issues as well as write about those topics that resonate with the truths of everyday life in Philly, and everywhere else.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Who’s really following you on social media? The scam of a lifetime brings together two wildly different women in this page-turning thriller about greed, legacy, and betrayal from the New York Times bestselling author of Watch Me Disappear. An ID Book Club Selection • “It’s Dynasty meets Patricia Highsmith.”—The Washington Post Nina once bought into the idea that her fancy liberal arts degree would lead to a fulfilling career. When that dream crashed, she turned to stealing from rich kids in L.A. alongside her wily Irish boyfriend, Lachlan. Nina learned from the best: Her mother was the original con artist, hustling to give her daughter a decent childhood despite their wayward life. But when her mom gets sick, Nina puts everything on the line to help her, even if it means running her most audacious, dangerous scam yet. Vanessa is a privileged young heiress who wanted to make her mark in the world. Instead she becomes an Instagram influencer—traveling the globe, receiving free clothes and products, and posing for pictures in exotic locales. But behind the covetable façade is a life marked by tragedy. After a broken engagement, Vanessa retreats to her family’s sprawling mountain estate, Stonehaven: a mansion of dark secrets not just from Vanessa’s past, but from that of a lost and troubled girl named Nina. Nina’s, Vanessa’s, and Lachlan’s paths collide here, on the cold shores of Lake Tahoe, where their intertwined lives give way to a winter of aspiration and desire, duplicity and revenge. This dazzling, twisty, mesmerizing novel showcases acclaimed author Janelle Brown at her best, as two brilliant, damaged women try to survive the greatest game of deceit and destruction they will ever play.

A pulpy tale of mismatched twins struggling to embody the perfect woman: "Effortlessly cool and slyly spiky, Despentes probes the dynamics of fame, beauty, and female competition, putting her finger on the pulse of what it’s like to wear the daily drag of femininity—and then pressing down, slowly and calmly, right where it hurts" (Alexandra Kleeman, author of You Too Can Have a Body Like Mine). Claudine has always been pretty and Pauline has always been ugly. But when Claudine wants to become famous, she convinces gloomy Pauline—with her angelic voice—to pretend they’re the same person. Yet just as things take off, Claudine commits suicide. Pauline hatches a new scheme, pulling on her dead sister’s identity, inhabiting her apartment, and reading her mail. As the impersonation continues, Pauline slowly realizes that the cost of femininity is to dazzle on the outside while rotting away on the inside—and that womanhood is what ultimately killed her sister. "It’s pulp in every sense: propulsively readable, violent, sexy, with all the satisfaction of an inevitable ending. And yet it’s also a feminist parable, blunt and unrelenting in its wrath, and it feels as fresh now as it would have ten years ago." —The Paris Review

In the small Oregon coastal town of Blue Whale Cove, residents appreciate the safety and comfort that comes with everyone knowing everyone else. There isn’t much excitement, and people like it that way, which is why a string of burglaries rocks the entire town. When an expensive Fabergé egg pendant goes missing, the town residents are unsettled but largely unconcerned. As the burglaries continue and it becomes clear that the burglar must have intimate knowledge of the town, its residents and their possessions, the residents experience the unfamiliar sting of fear. Elnora Landlin is a second-generation Blue Whale Cove resident who finds herself torn between the desire to continue her normal life and the desire to make sense of what is happening in her small town. Even as chance sets her on a path that could lead to answers, she finds herself wondering whether she is simply chasing shadows and pretty things.
