Not illustrated. 1915 edition. Excerpt: ... CONCERNING PURPOSE AND METHOD The best remedy and the only permanent remedy for any evil is the removal of its cause. That is God's way of dealing with sin in the individual life. He cleanses the heart, out of which wicked purposes and desires have been springing. It is His way of correcting the wrongs of human society. He awakens the national conscience and organized forces of evil are routed. Slavery is abolished, the liquor traffic is prohibited, child labor is forbidden and endless suffering and social injustice are prevented by the removal of their causes from the social fabric of the State. Slowly, but surely, men and women are learning to understand and to imitate God's method. They are being admitted more and more into fellowship with Him, as co-workers in the achievement of His high purposes for the regeneration and the perfecting of the individual and of the human race. But many wrongs remain to be righted. The social organism is still suffering from diseases, the secret of the remedy for which lies in a better understanding and a gradual elimination of those conditions out of which they spring. Among such lingering evils are the hatreds and enmities, the arrogance and the suffering, the dissipation and the privation, the temptation and the sin, resulting from the unequal distribution of the fruits of human toil and skill and the consequent extremes of wealth and poverty, as they are found side by side in awful contrast in modern society. What have the Christian Church and the individual Christian disciple to do with these conditions? What measure of responsibility for their correction falls on them? How may this responsibility be forced upon the conscience of the individual disciple? And what and where is the remedy to be...

A unique collaboration, ‘The Wealth of Poverty’ uncovers the surprising wealth that can be found in poverty. By enlightening their readers and changing their mind-sets, the authors inspire everyone to develop strong relationships with those from different economic background so all may prosper collectively. Reviews for the book have been impressive. Rev. Adam Hamilton, Church of the Resurrection in Leawood, KS, comments, “Often the church’s efforts addressing poverty involve performing acts of service for or to the poor. These acts are sometimes motivated more by one’s own needs or self-interest than by a genuine concern for the poor. Tina Carter and Mindy Johnson-Hicks invite readers to take a different approach. In The Wealth of Poverty they invite readers to develop mutual relationships with persons of different economic groups and to foster a deeper understanding of the culture of poverty and the surprising wealth found there." How does healing fit into God's will, especially when God doesn't heal? Our hearts, our bodies, and our world are desperate for healing. We all experience brokenness, and we rightfully look to Jesus for restoration. But many Christians have been taught the lie that God will heal us if our faith is strong enough, and that he is punishing us when bad things happen. Growing up in one of the world's leading faith-healing dynasties, Costi Hinn witnessed the tragedy of people chasing after healing more than the Healer. In this book he provides biblical clarity to some of the most challenging questions of the Christian faith. Does grace guarantee healing? How do we catch ourselves from slipping into the trap of seeking God for what he can do for us and not for who he really is? Beginning with the vivid memory of the night he discovered his son's cancer diagnosis—Costi unpacks the layered feelings and questions we have about God and his healing power, and he provides practical principles for growing closer to Jesus. With gentle clarity and biblical wisdom, he explains how to: Faithfully pray for healing while trusting in God's sovereignty. Navigate tough conversations about the topics of divine healing, love, and justice. Hold on to faith even in the most painful trials. More than chasing after the Jesus we want, this hopeful and encouraging book will guide you to discovering the Jesus we truly need—and the true power and hope that comes from a genuine relationship with him.
