Excerpt from The Pot-Pourri, 1898, Vol. 6 Cribbing is a custom found almost everywhere, and there are various methods of treating it, more or less successful - but principally less. In this school it has been the Custom for boys to sever their connection with the school by being caught cribbing. That being caught condition is what keeps the school from disband ing, for it is hard to find boys who will not crib when pressed, or who, at least, will not give assistance to neighbors in distress. While we heartily condemn the dishonesty and Short-sightedness of the boy who cribs, and the cowardice of him who helps another for fear of being thought ungenerous, we are inclined to hold the methods of the Faculty responsible for the great extent of this foolishness. For an instructor to sneak around the room on tip-toe during an examination, or even to watch from the desk, is to assume the responsibility of the class's hon esty, and is as much as to dare the boys to crib. Then the class feels no restraint, and the very risk is fascinating. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from The Patriot, 1918 Many of our men sat smoking in meditative silence, thinking of the poor fellows lying out there in the field so white and still. They were no longer the enemy, simply the beings of God's creation. Those bodies once moved with the life and vitality He had given them. Mortal hands had destroyed the body, but the soul, impervious to human destruction, took its place in eternity. As they sat there with these thoughts in mind there crept into their consciousness this proposition, Man has destroyed that which God has made, and the deep silence with which it was accepted made one feel he was witnessing an atonement between man and the Almighty.
