The papers collected in this book represent an exciting contribution to the growing body of experimental and theoretical research into exotic hadrons. The prime focus of the volume is the latest work on pentaquark baryons. The in-depth experimental reports cover both positive and negative evidence for the existence of various combinations of particles, and photo-electro production, hadronic production and high-energy processes are discussed in detail.Important theoretical areas of current interest are considered, including chiral solitons, constituent quarks, the QCD sum rule, lattice QCD, production reactions, and the determination of spin and parity. The volume features the work of two pioneering theorists, H Lipkin and D Diakonov, among the comprehensive coverage of the latest theoretical ideas in the field. The proceedings have been selected for coverage in:• Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings® (ISTP® / ISI Proceedings)• Index to Scientific & Technical Proceedings (ISTP CDROM version / ISI Proceedings)• CC Proceedings — Engineering & Physical Sciences

These proceedings present the most up-to-date status of deep inelastic scattering (DIS) physics. Topics such as structure function measurements and phenomenology, quantum chromodynamics (QCD) studies in DIS and photoproduction, spin physics and diffractive interactions are reviewed in detail, with emphasis on those studies that push the test of QCD and the Standard Model to the limits of their present range of validity, towards both the very high and the very low four-momentum transfers in lepton-proton scattering.

The light scalar mesons have been posing serious problems to both theorists and experimentalists. Even nowadays there is no consensus whatsoever on the quark structure of these hadronic resonances, some of which are very broad. Nevertheless, the light scalars are of tremendous importance for a better understanding of QCD and strong interactions, with far-reaching implications for nuclear physics as well. The SCADRON70 Workshop managed to bring together many of the leading experts in the field, with invited talks of spokespersons of practically all major experimental collaborations in particle and hadronic physics, besides invited talks given by some renowned theorists. Simultaneously, the Workshop allowed to honor one of the pioneers of scalar mesons, viz. Prof. Michael D. Scadron, at the occasion of his 70th birthday.

This symposium focused on new developments in the fields of experimental and theoretical nuclear physics which will help us to better understand subatomic physics, including the new quark-gluon plasma matter. The participants also reported on new developments in instrumentation, including large-scale facilities in China and Japan, such as accelerators and beamlines that will be essential for future work.

A quark is a type of elementary particle found in protons and neutrons and other subatomic particles. They are a major constituent of matter, along with leptons. In nature, quarks are never found on their own, as isolated, single particles; rather, they are bound together in composite particles named hadrons. For this reason, much of what is known about quarks has been inferred from observations on the hadrons themselves. This book provides leading edge research on this field from around the globe.

This review volume on topological and nontopological chiral solitons presents a global view on the current developments of this field in particle and nuclear physics. The book addresses problems in quantization, restoration of translational and rotational symmetry, and the field theoretical approach to solitons which are common problems in the field of solitons. Primarily aimed for graduate students and the novice in the field, the collected articless cover a broad spectrum of topics in formalism as well as phenomenology.

This is perhaps the most up-to-date book on Modern Elementary Particle Physics. The main content is an introduction to Yang-Mills fields, and the Standard Model of Particle Physics. A concise introduction to quarks is provided, with a discussion of the representations of SU(3).The Standard Model is presented in detail, including such topics as the Kobayashi-Maskawa matrix, chiral symmetry breaking, and the ?-vacuum. Theoretical topics of a more general nature include path integrals, topological solitons, renormalization group, effective potentials, the axial anomaly, and lattice gauge theory. This second edition, which has been expanded, incorporates the following new subjects: Wilson's renormalization scheme, and its relation to perturbative renormalization; pitfalls in quantizing gauge fields, such as the Gribov ambiguity; the lattice as a consistent regularization; Monte Carlo methods of solution; and the issues, folklores, and scenarios of quark confinement. More than a quarter of the book comprise of new materials. This book may be used as a text for a one-semester course on advanced quantum field theory, or reference book for particle physicists.
