My sister, Karen, and I loved our dogs; and there were many over the years. Karen and I were very close, and even though we moved away from each other as adults, we always kept in touch. At one time we talked about living together as old ladies and taking care of each other, just as we did when we were kids. But life had other ideas. Looking forward to seeing her daughter grow up and loving her anticipated grandchildren, at the young age of 41 Karen was swept out of our lives by cancer. This is a story of our life together and ultimately apart. A story of how I found meaning in her suffering and in my grief by working with therapy dogs for nearly 25 years. The wonderful world of therapy dog work opened my life and my heart in ways I could never have imagined. Working with children, in hospitals and nursing homes are a few of the areas I was gifted to work with my dogs. The book contains a reflection of God's presence as he walked with me on this journey. The people I walked with to learn this craft as well as those I walked alongside fills me with gratitude for God's grace. As I ponder that grace, I wonder what else God has in store for you and me.

It's up to a trio of adorable rescue huskies to make two lonely hearts in a coastal Alaskan town realize that true love is worth too much to turn tail and run. Glaciers have nothing on Kelsey Porter when she decides to freeze someone out. After getting burned once, she's not about to let it happen again. And right now all that icy contempt is focused on one annoyingly attractive and entitled interloper: Ian Roth. Not only is he looking to take advantage of her quaint, coastal community, tainting the small-town charm of Helen, Alaska, but he has committed the one crime she can never forgive--he doesn't like her dogs. Unlike what Kelsey believes, Ian loves Helen's charms as much as she does. That's partly why he's determined to open a brewery there, and he's not about to let anything or anyone stop his dream from coming true. But he didn't count on the beautiful, prickly woman getting under his skin. Or having to be within hand-biting proximity of her three huge huskies. When Kelsey's family conscripts her into helping Ian get his brewery off the ground, she finds herself caught between a rock and a hard . . . muscular . . . man who has a fear of dogs. But the longer they work together, the more she can feel herself begin to thaw. Now she'll have to choose: let sleeping dogs lie to protect her heart, or mush head-on toward love.

Hi, I'm Roxie. A dog. The short stories in this book share life as I see it from my paws and through my eyes. Hopefully, my observations will help you on your journey. The biggest lesson I have learned is this: We all must learn to move beyond the biscuit-beyond immediate gratification-and discover the clues, lessons, and opportunities that surround us. To do that, though, we must pay attention. I focus on where I am. The smells in front or to the side of me or the cool beach sand beneath my body. If a cat is nearby, I want to go up and get to know it. Of course, they ignore me. That's another story. Every time I smell, stare at, or paw something, there is a reason. In part, this book will allow you to pause and reflect on your present moments. I hope my simple stories and insights will motivate you to ask deeper questions about your stories and to reflect on the who, what, why, and where of your purpose. My person, Steve, and I found each other for a greater reason than giving me a place to sleep and eat. You will learn that as the relationship I have with Steve continues to develop so does our purpose. It continues to evolve as I believe it does for all of us-canines and humans.I am a work in progress. And so is Steve. And so are you. I offer a hearty "Woof!" to all of us as we slow down, move beyond the biscuit, and embrace the wonders life has to offer.
