Extract: Malaysian palm oil will continue to compete strongly in world markets with soybean and other vegetable oils for the rest of this century. Production could reach 6 million tons in 1990 and 8 million tons in 2000 under the best possible conditions. The rapid development of oil palm cultivation feeds many social issues such as biodiversity, deforestation, food habits or ethical investments.
