Excerpt from Our Civic Image and Our Governments Our government grew out of character. It sprang from the lives of men. Its organization was the result of conscience implanted in man and of character developed by him. Patriotism and character are closely related terms. An earnest attempt has been made in this book to place upon the hearts of the people the responsibility of being citizens of the United States. The only thing new or original the author claims is in bringing man closer to government and government _closer to man; in showing the close analogy between individual character and national character; and in pointing out the likeness of the form of our government to the nature and being of man of self-government to civil government. The study of civil government is usually regarded as a dry and uninteresting subject. The author has endeavored in the preparation of this course of study to make it an interest ing and readable, as well as a logical, treatise upon the subject of govern ments. While it is impossible to give a publication of this kind the thrilling interest that characterizes some books, yet it is earnestly hoped that the attention of the reader will be held. Whoever opens this book with [a view of reading its pages and noting the parallel between soul government and civil government, will find it to his interest to study carefully the accompanying chart. It suggests more than it tells in words. It is an outline of the contents of the book. It is a part of this preface. As far as the author knows, this is the first book on Civics that has been highly illustrated. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Imagine an America where politicians, governmental institutions, schools, new technologies, and interest groups work together to promote informed, engaged citizens. Civic Education in the Twenty-First Century brings together scholars from various disciplines to show how such a United States is possible today. Inspired by Alexis de Tocqueville’s analysis of American democracy in the early 1800s, this edited volume represents a multidimensional evaluation of civic education in its new and varied forms. While some lament a civics crisis in America today, Civic Education in the Twenty-First Century raises hope that we can have an informed and active citizenry. We find the activities of a number of politicians, government institutions, schools and interest groups as promising developments in the struggle to educate and engage Americans in their democracy. New technologies and new innovations in civic education have laid the foundation for a revitalized American civic ecology. With Civic Education in the Twenty-First Century, we call for the United States to make these practices less isolated and more common throughout the county. The volume is broken into three major sections. First there are four chapters exploring the history and philosophical debates about civic education, particularly with respect to its role in America’s educational institutions. Then, the second section provides seven groundbreaking inquiries into how politicians and political institutions can promote civic education and engagement through their routine operations. As some examples, this section explores how politicians through campaigns and judiciaries through community programs enhance civic knowledge and encourage civic engagement. This section also explores how new technologies like the Internet and social media are increasingly used by government institutions and other entities to encourage a more politically informed and engaged citizenry. Finally, the third section contains six chapters that explore programs and practices in higher education that are enhancing civic education, engagement and our knowledge of them. From the virtual civics campus of Fort Hayes State to citizens’ academies throughout the country, this section shows the possibilities for schools today to once again be civics actors and promoters.

Proverbs 29:2: When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. KJV From the beginning of mankind, there has never been a country like the United States; a beacon light to the world, giving hope, prosperity, and most of all, freedom to all those who landed on the shores of this great country. America was built upon Biblical principles, it was due to Christians civic responsibility in making a government good for all people. The prophet Hosea said, 4:6: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: KJV And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book. (Revelation 22:19 KJV) The New Age movement has infiltrated the evangelical church and gradually changed the Bible to conform to its One World Religion, which is evident in eliminating the God head, Jesus Christ, and the virgin birth in many of the Revised bible versions today. Their words and doctrines prepare the apostate church of these last days to accept the Antichrist, his mark, image, and religionLucifer worship. The emerging new Christianitywith its substitution of riches for righteousness, a crown for a cross, and an imitation for a new creationis shown to be a direct result of the wording in new revised versions, a blueprint for the Antichrists One World Religion and government. Christians must get involved in government. It is our civic responsibility.

Black & white print. American Government 3e aligns with the topics and objectives of many government courses. Faculty involved in the project have endeavored to make government workings, issues, debates, and impacts meaningful and memorable to students while maintaining the conceptual coverage and rigor inherent in the subject. With this objective in mind, the content of this textbook has been developed and arranged to provide a logical progression from the fundamental principles of institutional design at the founding, to avenues of political participation, to thorough coverage of the political structures that constitute American government. The book builds upon what students have already learned and emphasizes connections between topics as well as between theory and applications. The goal of each section is to enable students not just to recognize concepts, but to work with them in ways that will be useful in later courses, future careers, and as engaged citizens. In order to help students understand the ways that government, society, and individuals interconnect, the revision includes more examples and details regarding the lived experiences of diverse groups and communities within the United States. The authors and reviewers sought to strike a balance between confronting the negative and harmful elements of American government, history, and current events, while demonstrating progress in overcoming them. In doing so, the approach seeks to provide instructors with ample opportunities to open discussions, extend and update concepts, and drive deeper engagement.
