“Wealth without work Pleasure without conscience Science without humanity Knowledge without character Politics without principle Commerce without morality Worship without sacrifice. https://vidjambov.blogspot.com/2023/01/book-inventory-vladimir-djambov-talmach.html Hieromonk Seraphim (Rose) (08/12/1934 – 9/02/1982) In 1961 Eugene – having completed his master’s degree, unexpected for everyone – left the university preferring to devote the near future to working on a book on the topic of studying the problems of spiritual state of modern people. DISCLAIMER : This volume is devised to display texts as circulated in the Russian language [due to the author's huge popularity in Russia] and not to 'better' the wording. Back-translation is YET to be improved. /// Thus the price is set to PREVENT you from buying this edition - while leaving it within your reach. /// Well, with all my due respect I cannot be even on a par with what hieromonk Seraphim (Rose) wrote. However, seeing the importance of his writings (looming up in Russia) I dared stitch up back-translations of his (into English) only to mark significant Orthodox insights that often slip our attention, and dared call it 'Orthodox Collection', visibly marking it is a translation from Russian...///(Things may sound different in Russian, I can only too often slip the meaning – but not skip it! – in my poor efforts, but I do try [translating it]!)///This translation is being re-edited [still] word-for-word. as my excuse.///Vladimir Djambov,///translator. Nov. 2020 - Feb 2021///...Children kill parents, parents kill children, beat or kill a complete stranger, but do not rob; a crime can be committed by one or the whole gang. Such gangs are terrorizing the whole district, stumbling around idle or senselessly fighting each other - and for what ?! Here it is, the time of “peace” and “prosperity”, when criminals can be from both higher and lower elements of society, their behavior has no practical reason, often there is no question of any premises and consequences. When the perpetrators of such crimes are asked to explain their behavior, they respond in approximately the same way: it was an “impulse”, an “impulse”; either the offender experienced sadistic pleasure in committing the crime, or there was an excuse that did not correspond to the gravity of the crime, such as boredom, dullness, indignation....BTW - nearly 400 standard pages of text (1,800 characters] /// The first danger lies in wait for someone who begins to read Orthodox books, is fond of them, but is mistaken in applying what he has read to his own life. St. Ignatius Bryanchaninov (whom, together with St. Theophan the Recluse can be called a guiding star for the present century) wrote a book entitled “An Offer to Modern Monasticism”: every Orthodox of our time should heed his words. He warns inexperienced readers from being overwhelmed by examples from the life of the holy fathers and ascetics: otherwise, he writes, the “pipe dream of perfection” will overshadow, overshadow the modest tasks of everyday Christian life (chap. 10). /// This is an extremely common ailment. We are thinking about an ascetic feat, and nearby, right in front of our nose, someone was in trouble, but it doesn’t occur to help.

Orthodoxy G. K. Chesterton - Orthodoxy (1908) is a book by G. K. Chesterton that has become a classic of Christian apologetics. Chesterton considered this book a companion to his other work, Heretics. In the book's preface Chesterton states the purpose is to "attempt an explanation, not of whether the Christian faith can be believed, but of how he personally has come to believe it." In it, Chesterton presents an original view of Christian religion. He sees it as the answer to natural human needs, the "answer to a riddle" in his own words, and not simply as an arbitrary truth received from somewhere outside the boundaries of human experience.

Many regions of the world whose histories include war and violent conflict have or once had strong ties to Orthodox Christianity. Yet policy makers, religious leaders, and scholars often neglect Orthodoxy’s resources when they reflect on the challenges of war. Through essays written by prominent Orthodox scholars in the fields of biblical studies, church history, Byzantine studies, theology, patristics, political science, ethics, and biology, Orthodox Christian Perspectives on War presents and examines the Orthodox tradition’s nuanced and unique insights on the meaning and challenges of war with an eye toward their contemporary relevance. This volume is structured in three parts: “Confronting the Present Day Reality,” “Reengaging Orthodoxy’s Tradition,” and “Constructive Directions in Orthodox Theology and Ethics.” Each exemplifies the value of interdisciplinary reflection on “war” and the potential for the Eastern Orthodox tradition to enhance ecumenical and interfaith discussions surrounding war in both domestic and international contexts. The contributors do not advance a single account of “the meaning of war” or a comprehensive and normative stance purporting to be “the Orthodox Christian teaching on war.” Instead, this collection presents the breadth and depth of Orthodox Christian thought in a way that engages Orthodox and non-Orthodox readers alike. In addition to offering fresh resources for all people of good will to understand, prevent, and respond faithfully to war, this book will appeal to Christian theologians who specialize in ethics, to libraries of academic institutions, and to scholars of war/peace studies, international relations, and Orthodox thought. Prodromou, Nicolae Roddy, James C. Skedros, Andrew Walsh, and Gayle E. Woloschak.

This book not only presents Eastern Orthodox readings of the great Latin theologian, but also demonstrates the very nature of theological consensus in ecumenical dialogue, from a referential starting point of the ancient and great Fathers. This collection exemplifies how, once, the Latin and Byzantine churches, from a deep communion of the faith that transcended linguistic, cultural and intellectual differences, sang from the same page a harmonious song of the beauty of Christ. The very popular prayerbook for Orthodox youth, Hear Me, has now been revised to include more prayers, answer more questions, and tackle additional difficult subject matter that our young people are constantly faced with. At 4" x 6" the prayerbook is designed to fit their lifestyles better, in a trim and smaller new volume that is both handsome to carry and easy to slip into a pocket, purse, or backpack. The mission of Hear Me remains the same: to inspire young people to pray, to challenge Orthodox youth in their walk with Christ, to offer encouragement, help answer questions, give direction, and ultimately be an added guide in finding one's own path toward theosis.
