Relaciona además los problemas de localización de instalaciones con los problemas de optimización de cadenas de abastecimiento y describe los principales requerimientos de información para poder aplicar modelos de optimización en el área. Los resultados de corto, mediano y largo plazo obtenidos en cada proyecto demuestran la gran utilidad de los modelos matemáticos aplicados para el mejoramiento del proceso de toma de decisiones, entre otras, para la optimización de cadenas de abastecimiento a todo nivel, lo que mejora la competitividad de las organizaciones, las cuales a su vez deberían transmitir dichos resultados a la sociedad.
