This book presents studies of self-motion by an international group of basic and applied researchers including biologists, psychologists, comparative physiologists, kinesiologists, aerospace and control engineers, physicians, and physicists. Academia is well represented and accounts for most of the applied research offered. Basic theoretical research is further represented by private research companies and also by government laboratories on both sides of the Atlantic. Researchers and students of biology, psychology, physiology, kinesiology, engineering, and physics who have an interest in self-motion -- whether it be underwater, in space, or on solid ground -- will find this volume of interest. Neuroanatomy: Draw It to Know It, Third Edition teaches neuroanatomy in a purely kinesthetic way. In using this book, the reader draws each neuroanatomical pathway and structure, and in the process, creates memorable and reproducible schematics for the various learning points in Neuroanatomy in a hands-on, enjoyable and highly effective manner. In addition to this unique method, Neuroanatomy: Draw It to Know It also provides a remarkable repository of reference materials, including numerous anatomic and radiographic brain images and illustrations from many other classic texts to enhance the learning experience. In the third edition of this now-classic text, the author completely reorganized the book based on user-feedback, taking a more intuitive and easy-to-use approach. For the first time, the illustrations are in full color. No other text in neuroanatomy engages the reader in as direct a manner as this book and none covers the advanced level of detail found while retaining the simplistic approach to the learning which has become the cornerstone of the text. Neuroanatomy: Draw It to Know It is singular in its ability to engage and instruct without overwhelming any level of neuroanatomy student.

In late May and early June 1991, a NATO Advanced Study Institute was held at a hotel in the hilltop village of San Martino al Cimino a few kilometers from the city of Viterbo in the Lazio region of Italy. The title of the course was the same as this volume and brought together specialists working at all phases of the life span (embryology, infancy, childhood, middle life and senescence) in both animals and humans to exchange ideas, facts and theories in the search for common principles. Such principles could prove important for understanding developmental changes in the central nervous system and visual behavior within the context of a continuum of life-span processes rather than viewing them as events or mechanisms that occur only in a certain period. For example, changes that are associated with "aging" were considered as extensions or continuations of processes that began at an earlier stage of the life span, rather than being seen as processes that only began late in life.
