El constante aumento en los valores de comercializacion de los combustibles fosiles, asi como el grave impacto ecologico provocado por los mismos, ha motivado el estudio sobre metodos de obtencion de energias alternativas que reduzca lo mas posible las emanaciones de gases nocivos a la atmosfera. En Mexico existen diferentes grupos de investigacion que se encuentran realizando estudios con semillas de segunda generacion y grasas animales. Actualmente en el estado de Chiapas, se esta promoviendo el cultivo del pinon blanco (Jatropha curcas), en mas de 100 hectareas con la finalidad de promover la produccion de biodiesel, esto ha motivado buscar y establecer la metodologia optima para extraer el aceite del pinon blanco. En el presente trabajo se establecieron las condiciones de extraccion del aceite de pinon blanco a traves de 2 metodos fisicos. El aceite obtenido se esterifico y se caracterizo quimicamente, con la finalidad de ser considerado como materia prima en la elaboracion de biodiesel. El contar con una metodologia optima de extraccion puede incrementar la oferta y la demanda de granos de pinon potenciando la produccion local y descentralizada de biocombustibles.
