The Turquoise Reference Edition of the King James Bible was created in the 1920s and has stood as a superb and well-loved example of classic Cambridge typographic design for over ninety years. The large format allows the text to be presented in a comfortably readable form using a bold, traditional typeface with cross-references. For this edition, the concordance has been freshly typeset, and the Bible includes the Translators' Preface, their compelling account of the principles underlying the publication of the KJV in 1611. This edition is bound in calfskin and is edge-lined for added suppleness. It also features a full yapp, whereby the covers are extended to further protect the gilded page edges. This feature, together with the raised spine hubs are traditional bookbinding techniques.

For over 50 years, the Dake Annotated Reference Bible has set the standard for study bibles, combining thoughtful scholarship with easy accessibility, and providing the serious student with the tools necessary to "rightly divide the Word of Truth" (2 Tim. 2:15). In keeping with that heritage, we at Dake Publishing are excited to introduce the New King James Version (NKJV) of the Dake Annotated Reference Bible. The NKJV remains true to the tradition of the original King James Version (KJV), which has been faithfully preserving the Word of God for more than 400 years. The goal of the NKJV translators has not been innovation, but rather a desire to "unlock" for modern readers the "spiritual treasures found especially in the Authorized Version of the Holy Scriptures." Their desire is ours as well, and the reason for selecting the NKJV as the translation for this updated edition of the Dake Annotated Reference Bible.

The standard editions of the 1611 King James Bible (or Authorised Version) currently available give, with little variation, the text as established by the Oxford edition of 1769. They give the reader, therefore, a seventeenth-century text in mid-eighteenth century clothes - clothes which are neither original nor modern. In this new edition of the King James Version the text has been collated with the translators' original work in order to give the reader as closely as possible the exact text on which the translators decided. It has also been given consistent modern spelling and presentation in order to make it easier to read and study than standard editions. The text is presented is paragraph form, with marginal notes. The type is 10/12.5 Swift.
