But elemental mastery over fire sets her apart from others of her night-prowling breed . . . and may be all that prevents her doom. The foe she now faces is human: the vampire hunter called Danaus, who has already destroyed so many undead. For Mira, the time has come to hunt . . . or be hunted.

From New York Times bestselling author Jacquelyn Frank comes the final chapter in the Nightwalkers saga! As the momentous showdown with a powerful demon unfolds, a passionate encounter breaks the ultimate taboo. Kamen is a Bodywalker, an ancient soul reborn in one human host after another. He’s also a prisoner of his own kind: for it was Kamen who released Apep, the deadly god who threatens the existence of their world. To atone for this grievous error, Kamen accepts an urgent mission: to convince the other nations of the Nightwalkers to set aside their centuries-old conflicts and band together. If he fails, all will be lost. And no tribe presents a greater challenge than the Wraiths, the spectral beings who are feared and despised for their lethal deathtouch. Kamen makes first contact with a stunning, ghostly pale beauty named Geneviève. Part Wraith and part human, scorned as a half-breed, Viève shares the hunger for redemption—and for connection. Her scintillating touch holds the kiss of death, and yet it makes Kamen feel more alive than ever. Soon his lips are pressed against hers, sending Viève into fits of desire and forging a bond that breaches the divide between them. Now they must unite all the Nightwalkers, from Vampire and Shadowdweller to Djynns, and fast—for Apep is ready for war. About Nightwalkers: This is fine work by two poets whose work combines an enjoyment of language with formal attentiveness. Debarshi Mitra's poems synthesize the hysteria of dream visuals with a spareness of line as he conjures a 'city held by lights' where 'mannequins walk gingerly' and 'a one-eyed man grins'. An arresting mix of irony and image characterizes Goirick Brahmachari's evocation of a city that speaks 'a language of snakes and ladders' -- 'hyper-productive, genetically modified, pre-defined'. - Arundhathi Subramaniam In this rare collection of poems, Debarshi Mitra and Goirick B engage in a soulful poetic conversation around the nightlife in the city. The poems travel in diverse directions to capture every possible nuance of life lived after sunset, by people of every age, gender, and class, and articulate a range of feelings from solitude to revelry, from weariness to intimacy, and from fear to ecstasy. Together the poems are an exploration into the oft-concealed dimensions of urban existence, an act like peeping into the other side of the moon to see the undiscovered and the less discussed aspects of life in the dark: a jugalbandi that is sure to enchant the lovers of poetry. - K. Satchidanandan Book Details: Authors: Debarshi Mitra and Goirick Brahmachari Pages: 130 Year of Publication: 2022 Price: Rs 500, Hardback ISBN: 978-81-958199-9-7 (9788195819997) Preface extract: This collection is a collaborative project by two poets. Thematically, it attempts to work around the ideas associated with the term “Nightwalkers”. While the literal meaning of the title may be associated with the idea of a person who walks or sleepwalks through the night, a dated connotation is also its association with prostitutes and, in a larger sense, all deviants who refuse to conform to all that is expected of them. We also attempted to sketch the lives, in our own idiosyncratic ways, of those in the city who are subjected to various demands during the day (workplace or otherwise) and therefore look forward to the night to express themselves, perhaps in a way reminiscent of the famous painting Nighthawks by Edward Hopper. Night then becomes a gateway for memories to flood in, for pause, reflection and more. It is also a way of exploring the so-called underbelly of the city, to try and understand the lives of those rendered invisible by the market forces: the cab drivers who continue to drive during the night, the bartenders awaiting a night of revelry and the many others who are often absent from the public or literary imagination… In our own distinctive ways, we sought ways to articulate and mirror our own experiences, our fleeting thoughts and images. In the process, we hoped to initiate a larger conversation about the very nature of art and life in a post-truth, increasingly sectarian and totalitarian world.

A captivating literary portrait of London explored at night by some of the city’s most iconic writers throughout history “Cities, like cats, will reveal themselves at night,” wrote the poet Rupert Brooke. Before the age of electricity, the nighttime city was a very different place to the one we know today – home to the lost, the vagrant and the noctambulant. Matthew Beaumont recounts an alternative history of London by focusing on those of its denizens who surface on the streets when the sun’s down. If nightwalking is a matter of “going astray” in the streets of the metropolis after dark, then nightwalkers represent some of the most suggestive and revealing guides to the neglected and forgotten aspects of the city. In this brilliant work of literary investigation, Beaumont shines a light on the shadowy perambulations of poets, novelists and thinkers: Chaucer and Shakespeare; William Blake and his ecstatic peregrinations and the feverish ramblings of opium addict Thomas De Quincey; and, among the lamp-lit literary throng, the supreme nightwalker Charles Dickens. We discover how the nocturnal city has inspired some and served as a balm or narcotic to others. In each case, the city is revealed as a place divided between work and pleasure, the affluent and the indigent, where the entitled and the desperate jostle in the streets. With a foreword and afterword by Will Self, Nightwalking is a fascinating literary exploration of the writers who traverse the city at night and the people they meet.

This anthology makes available for the first time a selection of narratives by and about prostitutes in the eighteenth century. These memoirs, some written by and some about eighteenth-century prostitutes, offer important insights into female experience and class and gender roles in the period. Portraying the lives of women in both success and hardship, written in voices ranging from repentant to bawdy, the memoirs show the complexity of the lives of the “nightwalkers.” For eighteenth-century readers, as Laura Rosenthal writes in her introduction, these memoirs “offered sensual and sentimental journeys, glimpses into high life and low life, and relentless confrontations with the explosive power of money and the vulnerability of those without it.” Offering a range of narratives from the conservative and reformist to the unabashedly libertine, this book provides a fascinating alternative look into eighteenth-century culture.
