As there are some consonants which alter their harsh or soft sound, according to the influence the following vowel has on them; it becomes necessary that the final consonant of the root of a few of the regular verbs, should undergo some trifling alteration, in order to preserve the primitive sound of that consonant throughout the whole verb, which it had in the infinitive.
