In recent years the discipline of chemical engineering has expanded to encompass a whole range of new areas as well as widening and developing traditional fields. It has also moved into areas which require a much broader knowledge and understanding of skill beyond those previously encountered. New regulations concerning legal, safety, ethical, environmental and ecological aspects have become an integral part of the responsibilities of the practising chemical engineer. The papers presented highlight some of the more unusual facets of chemical engineering as well as providing an opportunity for the presentation and discussion of developments in conventional areas.
