The Nano car disrupted an entire industry and changed the game in India forever. But this inspiring book is more than the story of one ingenious invention. Nanovation explains how revolutionary business thinking and product design can have profound effects on companies, industries, and the world. Discover the thought processes that bred innovation, the leadership that overcame adversity, the risks that were necessary to avoid failure, and how all of these efforts resulted in success beyond customers’ wildest expectations. This book will inspire you to contest management dogma, taken-for-granted assumptions, and updated systems--asking instead the tough questions of “What if?” and “Why not?” The process may even motivate you to overcome the toughest roadblocks in your career, the limitations of your business, and the biggest challenges facing your industry, In India, entire families?too poor to afford a car?crowd onto a single motor scooter every day to brave the tangled traffic of the streets. One evening, Tata Motor's then–venerable chairman Ratan Tata witnessed something on those rain-soaked streets that horrified him: an overloaded scooter lost traction in a busy intersection and sent several members of a family tumbling across the pavement. In that moment, the dream of Nanovation took root--and Ratan Tata perused it undeterred. When budget constraints, design restrictions, the rising costs of materials, and political agitation threatened to derail the project, Team Nano pressed on. This is the story of how they overcame insurmountable odds to create one of the greatest innovations in the auto industry.Do you have the eyes, the ears, and the hands to be a Nanovator? Endorsed by CEOs of high-profile, worldwide companies spanning many different industries, Nanovation encourages big ideas and even bigger action plans so that you, too, can make your mark.

"We need to seamlessly integrate IPR in the standard graduate/post graduate courses in science, technology, commerce, creative arts, etc., without over burdening the students with law" —Dr Prabuddha Ganguli, CEO, VISION-IPR Nanotechnology Intellectual Property Rights: Research, Design, and Commercialization offers an overview of the dynamics of development and commercialization in nanotech, where strategic integration of IP, R&D, and commercialization has become imperative. It demystifies issues of intellectual property rights (IPR) associated with research, design, technology transfer, and commercialization of innovations in technology-led areas such as nanotech. Gives all stakeholders vital information to instill confidence by helping them better understand their individual roles in the IPR process Designed for a diverse readership that may not have background knowledge of the legal nuances of IPR, this book clearly articulates techno-legal aspects of nano-related innovations to aid their effective integration into businesses. This resource stands apart by using numerous case studies and pictorial illustrations, addressing aspects ranging from ideation to commercialization of IP-enabled nanotechnology. It illustrates the evolving patent landscape in nanotechnology, explores the international patent classification system, and details patenting procedures in a range of jurisdictions, including search for nanotechnology prior art and creation of search strategies. The authors discuss patent-led nanotechnology businesses, presenting a wide range of case studies that address construction of valuable patent portfolios, growth of start-ups, and consolidation of IP-led nanobusinesses through mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, strategic investments, etc. They also cover patent litigations in nanotechnologies and the significance of strategically crafting agreements related to IP transactions. In addition, they address compliance with contractual obligations, the importance of well-drafted patent specifications, and sensitive aspects of conducting techno-legal due diligence prior to the development and marketing of products. Also covered are vulnerabilities in challenging/defending the validity of patents and negotiating settlements. Integrating use of the IPRinternalise® model for capacity building in human and infrastructural resources, the authors assess the future of IP landscaping in nanotechnology. Here, they focus on patentability, public perception of risks to health and ecosystems, institutionalized management of intellectual property rights, and the steps that will be necessary to meet these and other such challenges on the way to realizing profits in nanotech.

Quantum chaos is becoming a very wide field that ranges from experiments to theoretical physics and purely mathematical issues. In view of this grand span, Nobel Symposium 116 focused on experiments and theory, and attempted to encourage interplay between them. There was emphasis on the interdisciplinary character of the subject, involving a broad range of subjects in physics, including condensed matter physics, nuclear physics, atomic physics and elementary particle physics. The physics involved in quantum chaos has much in common with acoustics, microwaves, optics, etc., and therefore the symposium also covered aspects of wave chaos in this broader sense. The program was structured according to the following areas: manifestations of classical chaos in quantum systems; transport phenomena; quantal spectra in terms of periodic orbits; semiclassical and random matrix approaches; quantum chaos in interacting systems; chaos and tunneling; wave-dynamic chaos. This important book constitutes the proceedings of the symposium.
