It is never too early to learn about idioms, and "My two cents worth" is one of those things we call idioms. The English language is a beautiful thing, all filled with nuances, metaphors and similes that you can learn as you read. The fun thing abut reading is, after all, the fact that you can learn brad new things while you read. Practice your reading skills with another Penelope Dyan book that uses words from the Dolch reading word list. Even if you can read bigger books, it is always fun to have something to read that is just plain fun, and this is what all of the Penelope Dyan early readers are all about---fun! Penelope Dyan is an attorney, an award winning author and a former teacher who has put all her expertise into the books she writes for children. Using classroom tried and true techniques proven to excite little minds and make them giggle, she encourages thought and creativity. The kid friendly drawings and simple poetry contribute to the mix. And all of her early readers supplement what is actually being taught in the classroom, as they enrich a child's basic knowledge base. Remember, a book is a mind investment, and you should always invest in a child's mind, because that is a very wise investment. It is an investment in the future.

If you are like me, you like to get people's opinions on the issues that stir up the general public. Some opinions, of course, are worth reading. I hope that is the case with this offering originally intended for my great grandchildren. If you look at the table of contents, you will see the topics to which I wish to add my "two cents". On the back of my book cover my "two cents" is missing an "s" twice. I didn't change the spelling on purpose. My "opinion" would have been singular in one of the contexts my "two cent" was used in. Okay, I didn't want to start all over again. Some times the spin says it all. So, long story short, "Don't judge a book by its cover." Don't judge me by the way I will be spun if this book ever does reach the opinion centers of our everyday world. I want it to, even if I may not be an expert on anything. If we remain silent with our opinions we remain unheard. Well we know the damage that is caused when people are ignored for far too long. I'm not threatening here; I'm merely making an observation here. If you read my book you will know my opinion on the use of violence to get what we want. I wish I did have more answers to some of the how questions that arise. My Two Cents is simply my opinion on lots of things. You really won't know what they are worth until you plow through them. That may be enough said. If my book doesn't start to jump off the self, rest assured I'll keep trying because as Zig Ziglar always said, "A little shot is a big shot who kept on shooting."

In Twenty-Two Cents an Hour, Doug Crandell uncovers the harsh reality of people with disabilities in the United States who are forced to work in unethical conditions for subminimum wages with little or no opportunity to advocate for themselves, while wealthy CEOs grow even wealthier as a direct result. As recently as 2016, the United States Congress enacted bipartisan legislation which continued to allow workers with disabilities to legally be paid far lower than the federal minimum wage. Drawing on ongoing federal Department of Justice lawsuits, the horrifying story of Henry's Turkey Farm in Iowa, and more, Crandell shows the history of the policies that have led to these unjust outcomes, examines who benefits from this legislation, and asks important questions about the rise of a disability industrial complex. Exposing this complex—which is rooted in profit, lobbying, and playing on the emotions of workers' parents and families, as well as the public—Crandell challenges readers to reexamine how we treat some of our most vulnerable fellow citizens. Twenty-Two Cents an Hour forces the reader to face the reality of this exploitation, and builds the framework needed for reform.
