It is the end of a busy day at school, and one at a time, all of the toddlers have been picked up--all except one, that is. Now the last child sits alone with his teacher, growing more and more anxious as he watches the door, waiting and wondering . . . "Will my somebody special ever come for me, too?" Any child who has felt worried at the end of a busy day will be comforted by this cozy story, lovingly illustrated by Ashley Wolff.

As of May 2013, this poem of affirmation has been dedicated to each Horizons Atlanta Clark Atlanta University Young Scholar. During morning gatherings, mid-day, and in closing Excel-ebrations our Young Scholars enthusiastically participate in the “call response” recitation of “I Am Somebody Special!” These are the moments when we discuss and embrace personal experiences of gratitude, empathy, grit, and determination. Our “call response” recitation creates and confirms one’s personal image as a 21st century scholar. Today I dedicate this poem of affirmation to the Young Scholars of Horizons Atlanta and Horizons National as a springboard for discussing friendships, trusting relationships, purpose, and a sense of belonging. Our children are society’s passport to the future. I salute each teacher, each parent, each grandparent, and each community partner who share my “Let’s Do Something” vision of supporting 21st century heroes and she-roes!

A #1 New York Times bestseller, this innovative and wildly funny read-aloud by award-winning humorist/actor B.J. Novak will turn any reader into a comedian—a perfect gift for any special occasion! You might think a book with no pictures seems boring and serious. Except . . . here’s how books work. Everything written on the page has to be said by the person reading it aloud. Even if the words say . . . BLORK. Or BLUURF. Even if the words are a preposterous song about eating ants for breakfast, or just a list of astonishingly goofy sounds like BLAGGITY BLAGGITY and GLIBBITY GLOBBITY. Cleverly irreverent and irresistibly silly, The Book with No Pictures is one that kids will beg to hear again and again. (And parents will be happy to oblige.)

Everybody can help somebody—even you! "I used to spend a lotta time worryin' that I was different from other people . . . But I found out everybody’s different—the same kind of different as me.” Little Denver grew up very poor, and he didn’t get to go to school. As time passed, Denver decided to hop a train to the big city for a different life. But that life was difficult, and Denver spent many years as a homeless man. But God showed His love through two people who were very different from Denver. Based on Same Kind of Different As Me, the emotional tale of Denver Moore’s life story, this unique children’s book includes Denver’s original art. Parents and children alike will be moved by this powerful story and will never forget the unexpected and life-changing things that can happen when we help somebody.
