This memoir is a deeply personal account of past abuse, the struggle to overcome its lasting effects, and the journey toward healing and empowerment. It touches on feelings of regret for not speaking out, the profound impact of the abuse on trust and vulnerability, the realization that true healing cannot come from the abusers themselves, and the importance of seeking professional support. The author emphasizes the need to let go of the pain, reclaim personal power, and learn to trust and love again. Ultimately, the message is one of resilience, empathy, and the shared humanity of both survivors and those who have caused harm.

And as the boy becomes a man he turns his attention to writing, which brings him fame, and a wife, who may finally bring him to know himself. Whilst there have been many memoirs written by U-boat commanders of the Second World War, a book such as this, based upon the diaries of a senior Petty Officer telegraphist, written in 'real time' is something very special. Wolfgang Hirschfeld, whose diaries Geoffrey Brooks has translated is a born story teller. The principal chapters describe his experiences during six war patrols in U-109, in which he served as the senior telegraphist. His is a tale which covers the whole kaleidescope of emotions shared by men at war—a story of immense courage and fortitude, of remarkable comradeship born of the dangers, frustrations and privations shared and of transitory moments of triumph. Throughout runs a vein of humour, without which resistance to stress would have been virtually impossible. We get to know one of Germany's great U-boat aces, 'Ajax' Bleichrodt, holder of the Knight's Cross of the Iron Cross with Oak Leaves and, in a special biographical appendix, learn how he finally cracked under the strain. The role of Admiral Karl Donitz, the dynamic commander of the U-boat service, so fascinatingly described by Hirschfeld, is of special interest—not least because even this dedicated Nazi had clearly realized by September, 1942, that the war was fast being lost. In 1944 Hirschfeld was promoted Warrant Officer and found himself on a large, schnorkel-equipped boat (U-234) heading for Japan with a load of high technology equipment and, in addition, a quantity of uranium ore. The possible significance of that uranium has been deeply researched by Geoffrey Brooks and is discussed in a second appendix.

Shantyboat is the story of a leisurely journey down the Ohio and Mississippi rivers to New Orleans. For most people such a journey is the stuff that dreams are made of, but for Harlan and Anna Hubbard, it became a cherished reality. In their small river craft, the Hubbards became one with the flowing river and its changing weathers. This book mirrors a life that is simple and independent, strenuous at times, but joyous, with leisure for painting and music, for observation and contemplation.

"The Secret of Killimooin" – Prince Paul invites the Arnold's to his palace in Baronia for the holidays; but it is so hot there in the roasting summer that the entire royal household adjourns to their castle up in the mountains. Bands of robbers are marauding the countryside, terrorizing the local people, and Paul is incensed, and determined to find the robbers and have them detained. "The Secret of Moon Castle" – The Arnolds are invited to spend some time in the castle with Prince Paul's family. They are all soon puzzled by strange events happening in the castle: odd noises that occur, eyes in portraits that shine mysteriously, lights that shine in tower rooms, despite being locked tight.

The Little Blue Boat and the Secret of the Broads takes readers on an exciting journey in a race against time, through one of Britain’s most magical waterways. A boat owner makes a final voyage from Essex to the Broads to give his small yacht to his grandchildren, but he’s taken ill and the boat is left adrift at sea with just a small bear on board. The bear and boat have to make their way through the Norfolk waterways to find the children before they’re seized by the authorities, or worse, stolen by the infamous Pincher Pete. Helped by the mysterious Marsh Man and numerous local birds and animals, the story unfolds and reveals the hidden secret of the Broads. This reassuring, life-affirming adventure offers the reader an understanding of our waterways, and some of the wildlife that lives on, above, beside and beneath our rivers and lakes. It will inspire children and parents to do their own exploring and also learn about water safety and our fragile environment. The book includes a map showing where the action takes place so that readers can visit many of the locations. The beautiful illustrations show some of the birds and animals that readers may see on a visit to the Broads and other British wetlands. The tale, which has echoes of Swallows and Amazons and The Wind in the Willows, will appeal to children aged 6-11 years who enjoy adventure stories. It is a book that parents, grandparents and teachers, who want children to enjoy and learn about the great outdoors and understand the environment, have been waiting for.

From the former Chief Justice of Canada and #1 bestselling author of Full Disclosure comes a razor-sharp thriller featuring defense attorney Jilly Truitt as she defends a high-profile mother accused of kidnapping her own child. Jilly Truitt has always put her job as a criminal defense lawyer first, but becoming a new mother has changed her priorities. For the first time in her career, she’s taking some long-overdue time away from her firm and the day-to-day grind of cases, enjoying the quiet delights of motherhood. Then the daughter of celebrity pop star Trist Jones goes missing and his ex-wife, Katie, is charged with kidnapping. Everyone from the police to the media believe Katie is guilty—her reputation was ripped to shreds in the tabloids during their divorce and subsequent custody battle. Call it mother’s intuition, but Jilly has her doubts. Katie’s whole life was about being a mother, and she and Trist were very public about their problems conceiving, shining a spotlight on their use of a surrogate. After everything she went through to have a child, Katie claims that she would never do anything to hurt her daughter, and she begs Jilly to take her case. Jilly agrees, but Katie’s prospects don’t look good. Police have found a witness who says he saw Katie with Tess the afternoon she disappeared, and they are close to giving up the search. The best chance Jilly has of clearing Katie’s name is to find the missing girl. But as the weeks go by, the police begin to suspect that Tess might be dead. With the threat of a murder charge hanging over Katie’s head, Jilly must find the real kidnapper and save Tess before it’s too late.

In this unique memoir, the adventuresome author combines stories of rural Kentucky and restless travel with tall tales of other worlds and bygone eras. Bob Thompson discovered his passion for storytelling on the front porch of his Granny's country store in McCracken County, Kentucky. Absorbing the tales and traditions he learned there, he kept them close as he went out in search of stories and life experiences of his own. In Hitchhiker, Thompson offers readers homegrown tales that interweave ghosts of the past with real and imagined worlds far beyond his grandmother’s porch. The stories progress from Bob’s Tom Sawyer-esque childhood in Western Kentucky through his restless wanderings as a hitchhiking hippie to his adulthood as an unrepentant adventurer following the footsteps of Hemingway and the Lost Generation across Europe. This collection brings together coming-of-age tales, family stories of bygone eras, and even true accounts of unsolved murders and mysteries. Hitchhiker is Huckleberry Finn meets The Twilight Zone, with just a taste of The Electric Kool-Aid Acid Test.
