I was born and raised in the small By: Retired Corporal Timothy Schell borough of Blandon, located in Berks County Pennsylvania. There wasnt much to do there except hang out and have fun with your friends. We played football, basketball, home run king and went swimming in the local dam. I have two older brothers who I look up to; Larry and Garry. I looked to them for guidance and advice. We were close while growing up, but they got me into trouble as big brothers often do. I went to Fleetwood Area High School where I lifted weights and ran track and fi eld for four years. I met my wife Kristel in Fleetwood. I used to ride my bike four miles one way just to see her. I was an average normal kid with big dreams of being a police offi cer and helping others. I obtained my goal through hard work and dedication and support from my family. I have a nice house, a gorgeous wife and two beautiful daughters; Aubrey and Morgan. If you work hard, stay close to your family and to God, your goals will be fulfilled.

This is a story about a man who came from humble beginnings and ended up at the crest of power in Washington and Moscow. The story takes us into the depths of a racially segregated South to the desperate streets of New York City where criminals and crime fighters fought for control and to an America reeling from the assassination of its political leaders. It is the story of the growth of America. It is the story of a man who kept scaling seemingly insurmountable walls as he fought for justice. This is the story of Charles LeRoy Gittens.

Psychoanalysis was her family’s religion—instead of wafers and wine, there were Seconals, Nembutals, and gin. Baptized into the faith at fourteen, Melissa Knox endured her analyst’s praise of her childlike, victimized mother—who leaned too close, ate off Melissa’s plate, and thought “pedophile” meant “silly person.” Gaslighted with the notions that she’d seduced her father, failed to masturbate, and betrayed her mother, Melissa shouldered the blame. Her story of a family pulled into and torn apart by psychoanalysis exposes the abuse inherent in its authoritarianism as Melissa learns, with a startling sense of humor and admirable chagrin, that divorcing Mom is sometimes the least crazy thing to do.

Welcome to the childhood of Catherine McClure Gildiner. It is the mid-1950s in Lewiston, New York, a sleepy town near Niagara Falls. Divorce is unheard of, mothers wear high heels to the beauty salon, and television has only just arrived. At the tender age of four, Cathy accompanies Roy, the deliveryman at her father's pharmacy, on his routes. She shares some of their memorable deliveries-sleeping pills to Marilyn Monroe (in town filming Niagara), sedatives to Mad Bear, a violent Tuscarora chief, and fungus cream to Warty, the gentle operator of the town dump. As she reaches her teenage years, Cathy's irrepressible spirit spurs her from dangerous sled rides that take her "too close to the Falls" to tipsy dances with the town priest.
