Our pets have an impact on our lives. Life is a journey, and Zippy's was fascinating and entertaining. Sometimes we see our pets as just pets. Other times, we see them as family members. Zippy was a family member to me and my family. He gave us great joy. This is an educational and moral-oriented story with a splash of humor. Every chapter describes different events in Zippy's life that makes the reader want to know more about him. People will enjoy reading this book. The book is easy to read, especially for beginners. The book is about Zippy protecting the house from invaders. It talks about Zippy loving when it was hard to love. He was caring to the point of laying his own life down. In addition, he made friends with the unfriendly. For a small creature, he had a big heart that is described throughout the chapters in this book. We can learn from observing creatures. I learned that every life is precious and has a purpose. I wrote about Zippy so that the love he transpired could be transmitted through the words in this book and never be forgotten. Finally, I believe children will be able to learn from this book. They will not only be intrigued to read but also to be considerate when they have their own pet. A pet is a gift. They will understand that pets have feelings too.

“A fascinating glimpse into the canine world, possibly deeper and more accurate than any we have had until now” (The New York Times Book Review). Long before the Dog Whisperer, anthropologist Elizabeth Marshall Thomas revealed to readers the nature of pack dynamics, leading to a completely new understanding of dogs, their personalities, and their desires. Based on thirty years of living with and observing dogs, The Hidden Life of Dogs asks one question: What do dogs want? To find out, we must meet the pack. First there is Misha, a husky Thomas followed on her daily rounds of more than 130 square miles. Then there is Maria, who adored Misha, bore his puppies, and clearly mourned when he moved away; the brave pug Bingo and his little wife, Violet; the dingo Viva; and other colorful characters. In observing them, Thomas learned that what dogs want most of all is other dogs. Informative and captivating, The Hidden Life of Dogs will give every canine owner and canine lover great insight into dog behavior. “A wonderful book . . . Too bad dogs can’t read. They’d be fascinated. Dog people will be too.” —USA Today

Mike Gaddis swore to be painfully selective in choosing the puppy that would accompany him on the horseback pointing dog trials he so badly wanted to participate in. He knew the smallest female born sixth in the litter of twelve English setters was special, but he didn't understand the power of her potential until he let her loose in the field. Her lightning speed earned her the name Zip Zap, and she grew to be the best bird dog Gaddis ever owned. In this memoir, Gaddis celebrates the dog's indomitable spirit and tells the story of training and developing superior pointers, from their first unrefined runs in the amateur puppy stakes to winning major championships.

As bullets ring and bombs are dropped, children watch—mostly from the sidelines, but occasionally in the direct line of fire. Unaware of the political issues or power struggles behind the battle, all they know are the human, emotional consequences of this thing called war. This collection examines all of war’s implications for young people—from those caught in the line of fire to the children of the veterans of wars long past. Critically acclaimed author Jennifer Armstrong brings together 12 powerful voices in young people's literature to explore the realities of war from a child's perspective. The settings vary widely—the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, an attempted coup in Venezuela, the American Civil War, crisis in the Middle East—but the effects are largely the same. In war, no life is ever left untouched. In war, lives are shattered.
