From his early childhood, author Floyd Funk was a dreamer and a romantic, wanting the most excitement and fulfillment he could get out of life. In My God/My Father, he shares forty years of his life story. His memoir recounts his pastoral and bittersweet small-town, Midwestern upbringing culminating in the shocking revelation of his parental abduction at the age of eleven. From that point his life is irrevocably altered and we follow him on his trial-and-error road of re-unification, both with his family and with his own identity. Funk shares how his saving grace was his faith in God, the one who helped him conquer his demons and break through the chains that held him down for years. This is Floyds testament to the unyielding presence of God through many years of broken relationships, false starts, and painful self-realization.

Lisa Standeven used this time to reflect and share her newfound worldview, captured in her new book, The Myth of Success and the Truth of Abundance. This book is a deep, introspective dive into the typical milestones we set for ourselves and our loved ones. Drawing upon her personal stories, and the stories of those around her, Lisa challenges the traditional definition of success and posits a new way to achieve abundance. Each chapter offers an analysis of the common guideposts we use to measure our own levels of achievement. Conventional accomplishments such as wealth, position, beauty, and education are carefully examined from a new perspective, and novel strategies to reimagine and recreate our lives anew are proposed. During the filming of his celebrated novel THE ENGLISH PATIENT, Michael Ondaatje became increasingly fascinated as he watched the veteran editor Walter Murch at work. THE CONVERSATIONS, which grew out of discussions between the two men, is about the craft of filmmaking and deals with every aspect of film, from the first stage of script writing to the final stage of the sound mix. Walter Murch emerged during the 1960s at the centre of a renaissance of American filmmakers which included the directors Francis Coppola, George Lucas and Fred Zinneman. He worked on a whole raft of great films including the three GODFATHER films, JULIA, AMERICAN GRAFFITI, APOCALYPSE NOW, THE UNBEARABLE LIGHTNESS OF BEING and many others. Articulate, intellectual, humorous and passionate about his craft and its devices, Murch brings his vast experience and penetrating insights to bear as he explains how films are made, how they work, how they go wrong and how they can be saved. His experience on APOCALYPSE NOW - both originally and more recently when the film was completely re-cut - and his work with Anthony Minghella on THE ENGLISH PATIENT provide illuminating highlights.

An Ordinary Man An Extraordinary God

An Ordinary Man An Extraordinary God
Author: Dr. Ernest S. Martin
Publisher: Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.
Total Pages: 420
Release: 2023-08-02
Genre: Biography & Autobiography

After retiring as a veterinarian, the author had much more time to spend with others, so he related stories of many of the experiences in his life. He was asked by family, friends, and others with whom he had shared if he had recorded these stories. Ernest never wanted to write his life story, but God revealed to him that he should record his experiences and title the book An Ordinary Man, An Extraordinary God. His procrastination to write ended when he had a back fusion with two rods and ten screws which required him to lay on a bone stimulator for four hours a day for six months; and during that time, he was not able to do any physical work. The book would show how God could take a country boy raised on a farm and use him to bring glory to God. Explaining how God used him could encourage others who also thought they were "nobodies" to realize that God could use any person that believed in God and spent time in His Word to walk in the Spirit and be led by the Spirit. The book begins just before Ernest received Jesus as his Lord and Savior and continues showing how, through His Word, the author received the baptism of the Holy Spirit, learned to walk in the Spirit, witnessed about God to others, prayed the prayer of faith for healing, cast out demons, and did other works of God. His walk with God and how he grew in faith is shared chronologically in the book. Now he could understand the groaning of the spirit within a Christian for the day of redemption when he would enter God's presence and be with Jesus for eternity.
