Southern belle Jasmin Laurent met a stranger at a ball. A tall, dark, and handsome man who immediately charmed her. But Jasmin's father had betrothed her to a man nearly twice her age. A betrothal that sat on her shoulders like a death sentence. Surely a moonlight stroll, though improper for a lady of her status, would do no harm. After all, she would soon be bound to another. A charming short story in the Civil War Southern Belle historical romance series. The Early Years. When the south was grand.

The legend of The Wild Hunt is as old as mankind. Every race has its version of The Hunt - the "raging host" of poachers' gangs who drove their quarry by night in defiance of ferociously strict game laws: the penalty for killing a deer was hanging. Disguised in the skins of beasts, they spread terror through the countryside, especially as they hunted not only animals but other humans and, when stimulated by drink and drugs, tore to pieces and devoured living creatures. As late as the 20th century, terrorists in the Congo and Kenya disguised themselves in panther and leopard pelts, the claws reinforced with steel to lacerate victims. The most common disguise was a wolf-hide, particularly in northern Europe, creating the werewolf superstition. It was clearly addictive behaviour, and some of its patterns can be discovered in modern gang activities. Could a Wild Hunt survive into our time? In a remote area, seldom visited by outsiders, a secret werewolf cult might still be pursuing and devouring its victims. The Wild Hunt tells of a young university woman who inherits a long-abandoned farmhouse which she plans to restore for a summer retreat, only to learn (too late) that it has become the headquarters of a Wild Hunt surviving among the men of a degenerate village. The anthropological soundness lends a terrifying plausibility which heightens the suspense more acutely than would the fear of supernatural, shape-shifting werewolves.

This is a true story (my story) written to prove that healing is possible for all Victims of abuse; for an abuser, forgiveness can also be found if they admit their crime and ask to be forgiven. This book is not a plea for sympathy. My goal is awareness and anger. Yours and mine at the chain of injustice and destruction brought on by any abuse. Without healing, generations will suffer the effects of ONE act of child abuse. Our anger united and properly channeled can bring about positive changes. Chains Can Be Broken is for anyone who has, or is acquainted with someone who has lived through the chaos of abuse; physical, mental, sexual, spiritual and substance, spiraled to the depths of hell to which these things led to finally emerge into the world of sanity, reality and light. Today's child abuse and sexual assault laws are merely a slap on the wrist for the abuser. The abused are sentenced to life imprisoned in their violated mind and body watching their identity slowly fade away. These laws tell the victim's that what happened to them is acceptable in the eyes of the law.

The celebrated sleuth’s father, retired Inspector Richard Queen, is called back to service to catch a devious black-market murderer. When unmarried women get into trouble, A. Burt Finner is waiting at the hospital to save them. This greasy-lipped fat man knows all about babies: how to change them, how to feed them—and how to sell them to the highest bidder. He buys low, getting them from their distressed mothers just a few hours after birth, and sells high to millionaires who are unable to have children of their own. When one of these infants dies just a few months after its sale, the new family is shocked by the tragedy. Only the newborn’s nurse recognizes the death as murder. The nurse reaches out to Inspector Richard Queen, the recently retired father of the legendary amateur sleuth Ellery. Given that his son is out of town, the inspector leaps at a chance to solve this chilling mystery on his own—only to find himself falling head over heels for the baby’s caretaker.
