Excerpt from Monthly Bulletin, Vol. 13: July, 1910 At each annual session of the American Mining Congress the principal part of its work for the ensuing year is outlined by reso lutions adopted by vote of the delegates. The performance of this work Calls for the appointment of a number of standing committees, the members of which are all selected with the idea of securing those best qualified to serve. These committees prosecute their work between sessions and render reports of their transactions or conclusions at the first ensue ing annual session. As a means of facilitating their work the Monthly Bulletin is designed to serve as a medium for the presenta tion of ideas from the membership generally upon topics in which particular interest is felt. The columns of the Bulletin are Open to the committees and the membership for the discussion of any subject relating to mining, and all communications from members should be sent to the Secretary of the Mining Congress, who will direct same to the proper committee in case they are not intended for publication. Excerpt from Monthly Bulletin, Vol. 13: October, 1910 Delegates returning from the Annual Session at Los Angeles report that gathering as the most important and profitable ever held by the Mining Congress, and the attendance most representative. The widespread interest shown, the valuable discussions brought out, and the vigorous yet sane manner in which vital questions were attacked, indicate an intensified concern about the questions, political and otherwise, which envelope the mining industry. Conservation, implying a great variety of features, such as disposition of the remaining mineral lands, water power sites, timber reserves, rights of prospectors and miners, state's rights, the leasing system, use of timber in mining, classification of mineral lands, etc., was one of the main questions, and was handled by many prominent minds. This broad doctrine now has many points, of contact with the mining industry, and is becoming so important that mining men generally are recognizing the necessity of working to protect their mutual interests. Excerpt from Monthly Bulletin, Vol. 13: May, 1910 With the development of electric power during the past quarter century, the electrical utilization and transmission of water-power to supply light, power and transportation has been an attractive dream, and, to a considerable extent, a practical reality. Progress in this direction has been slower than anticipated for two reasons. First - The direct-current moderate-voltage system required such an excessive quantity of wire to transmit power any conside crable distance, as to make the cost commercially prohibitive. Excerpt from Monthly Information Bulletin, Vol. 13: July, 1930; Number 1 The-new Commander of'the Fleet-carried out, in the course of 1915, seven such raids with the entire fleet. The hope to attain success against advanced forces was not fulfilled. No enemy forces other than submarines were ever sighted. The raids did not, of course, extend very far. The bulk of the ships of the line did not advance farther than 120 knots from Heligoland, and even that dis tance only when air scouting was possible. The cruisers were not generally sent much farther. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
